Genesis GV90.

For the first time, a prototype of the new upcoming Genesis GV90 is letting us see these very original “coach” read doors. These actually seem to be more like rear sliding doors, just like an a minivan, that prior prorotypes were trying very hard to hide with clever “regular door handles” camouflage. I guess Genesis thinks this is a very clever feature for a luxury SUV and wanted to create some kind of a surprise…

These new spy shots also show how close it is to the Neolun concept we saw last year.

The Neolun concept had a wonderful clean and modern design. Something that would be a huge breath of fresh air in our world populated with vulgar-looking beasts like the Escalade or Navigator.

It also would mean the end of those horrible-looking huge grille genesis plasters on everything. Let’s face it, that Superman shield-looking giant chrome grille looked ridiculous years ago when it came out. And it still does today.

The G90 will be Genesis‘s version of the new Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9. Its price is expected to be over $100,000 to start. Yes, that’s a huge jump over the Kia and Hyundai cousins. But still far under the new Cadillac Escalade IQ EV which starts at around $128,000.

The current Kia EV9 tops at around $70,000. A $30,000 and more premium over the Kia would give Genesis plenty of room to load it up with luxury features like air suspension and more. And still, be a very high-profit item for the brand.

The Genesis concept is an effort in the right direction. While also looking quite original. it’s good to see that maybe, the production model will stay close to the original design.

  1. There will apparently be two versions. One with regular doors and a long-wheelbase ultra-luxury version with the coach doors. That’s why you’ve seen both.
