R.I.P Acura ZDX.

I was actually surprised by the news this morning. Acura has decided to kill the ZDX, and production of the EV has already stopped.
Acura unveiled the ZDX in November 2023. I remember thinking it looked a bit weird, but actually much better in person at the Los Angeles auto show that month. Production started in March 2024, and less than 2 years later, “it’s over, Johnny” for the ZDX.
I had the chance to test drive various versions of Acura1‘s EV and came out quite impressed. Of course, the crazy starting price of over $64,000 was a tough pill to swallow. Especially with an OK interior that felt more at home in a $35,000 car. But starting last year, Acura was offering crazy, amazing lease deals with just a $299 a month payment. Pretty much unheard of for a $64,000 vehicle. That made the ZDX probably the best car you could get for $299 a month.
Of course, with deals like this, sales went up last year and probably this year as well. But tariffs and new EPA regulations that do away with stricter emission standards, Acura probably didn’t see the need to keep selling the ZDX anymore.
Now the new RSX will have the Acura EV market all by itself. It can also be priced higher since it won’t have to slot below the ZDX.
Honda currently says there is no change to the Honda Prologue production, the ZDX’s more affordable brother. The Prologue has been quite popular lately; however, that’s also due to huge discounts. And there is also that brand new EV on the way. The production version of the O Series SUV is related to the Acura RSX. That means Honda might also be getting ready to dump the Prologue sooner than later.
Here are a couple of videos about my weeks with the cool Acura ZDX:
