2028 Honda Accord.

The next-generation Honda Accord sedan isn’t coming soon. What we will see first is a very slight refresh for the 2026 model year. Something very minor, like the 2025 Civic. And just like the 2025 Civic, maybe even some cost-cutting here and there.
A new Accord isn’t expected before the 2028 model year, in 2027. Which isn’t that far away. And it will be about a year after the new generation Honda Civic.
Honda usually moves pretty slowly, and I don’t expect the revised 2026 model to switch to a hybrid-only powertrain. But that could happen with the next generation. When you think of it, it would, by then, still be 3 years behind Toyota. Since the Camry switched to an all-hybrid lineup for the 2025 model year.
We might even see a PHEV Accord for the first time. Most of us probably forgot, but the Honda Accord was available with a PHEV powertrain over 10 years ago! With about 13 miles of EV-only range.
Then the Honda Clarity came out, also with a PHEV powertrain. This time with an amazing 47 miles of EV range. I test drove one years ago and was very, very impressed.
For some reason, that amazing tech was never transferred to anything else, as far as I know. It would have been perfect in the Accord. Just imagine around 50 miles of EV range or even more by now.
By that time, Toyota will probably be close to introducing a truly new Camry, and there are rumors it might use some tech from the new 2026 Lexus ES. That could mean a Camry EV.
The current design is OK, but really tame and without any personality. The current Civic is really aging pretty poorly. This was expected with a design that looked much older than the previous generation.
Let’s hope the next generation Hondas get a healthy dose of razmatazz. Maybe influenced a bit by their upcoming 0 Series sedan and SUVs. Something a bit more intersting, which shouldn’t be hard to do.
The Clarity’s PHEV tech did go into other models. In other markets, Honda has a PHEV Accord as well as a PHEV CRV. The question is why is Honda so slow to bring it to the US? Then again, why don’t we have the HR-V hybrid which is already available as the ZRV Hybrid elsewhere. Overall, Honda needs to get Marysville OH production sorted out fast, because its consuming a lot of resources. For PHEVs, the real reason is that two years later they still don’t have their battery supply up to production demands for the hybrids they’re making, let alone their coming BEV models. And PHEVs take more battery stacks.
However, none of this is going to save an ugly Accord. With very small adjustments, they could heavily improve this model and make it competitive again until it can be redesigned. Overall, though, it got too long, too low, too cheapened. But the Camry is doing well, so no one should say sedans don’t sell. But ugly undesirable ones don’t.
Agreed on Honda’s sedans needing some much better styling for the next generation. The previous Civic and Accord were both very handsome. I really want to like the current Civic, but every time I see one, it looks goofy and oddly proportioned. The Accord, like you said, is just too long and too boring.
To me the current Accord looks extremely modern and the current Civic looks extremely old.
You’re right. The Accord looks very modern especially compared to other sedans. It also has a derpy look to it that they could easily correct with a painted section at the front lower spoiler, some fog lamps, and maybe paint those black edges between the headlights and the grill. That would keep the modern edge and correct the weirdness.
If Honda would adopt something similar to the sedan in the illustration for the next gen Accord, then their midsize sedan would be a styling leader in the segment.
