Ford is probably working on a new sedan.

In a recent interview at the Monterey Car Week, the Ford CEO offered an explanation for the death of the Ford sedan in the US. As well as hope for a brand new one coming soon.

The only sedan fans have been expecting from Ford lately has been a 4-door version of the current Mustang. Something that is highly unlikely, since sales of the Mustang have been lower than ever in its history. I’m not sure how adding 2 doors to a dud could make it much more popular.

Mr Farley seems to think the Fusion was not popular in the US because it was a car mainly designed for Europe. Our last-generation Fusion was basically a US version of the European Ford Mondeo. It was an expensive car for Ford to produce to keep it going. That money went to the Bronco and Maverick, 2 products that have been very successful in the US.

Now there are talks bout an affordable sedan based on Ford’s new “low-cost” EV platform. Which will already know will host at least 8 new models. Ford’s CEO is now hinting that a new Ford sedan could be one of these products. One that is more targeted to the North American market and not Europe. That means such a car wouldn’t be small. It would probably have to be larger.

As far as a name, my vote ford for “LTD” of course. As there were not more American sedans than the good old Ford LTD for decades. A comfortable, well-built, super roomy and quiet sedan the masses could afford.

I think a return of the “LTD” as an affordable, large, roomy sedan for the US would be great news. Even if most current buyers have never heard of the name…

Ford still produces a sedan in China. It just got a facelift for 2026, and still doesn’t look that great…

  1. If Ford produces a new sedan for the North American market, it better target the Camry/Accord and have a platform that accepts for gas and EV formats.

  2. Is Ford going to put out a $40k EV sedan to compete with the Model 3, or a $65k EV super sedan? That’s the question.

  3. Gas and EV on 1 platform compromises both, bad idea.
$40k EV at Lincoln dealers to pull younger buyers.
Gas awd 4dr V8 ‘Mustang’ sedan sandwiched between V6s and Hoonicorn trims.
Low price American working poor gas car, other OEM rebadgings a must.
3 sedans to help Ford. We need good CAFE, EPA rollback.

  4. I’d like to see Ford make something that Toyota attempted – a taller hybrid sedan with AWD. Toyotas Crown was a good idea. They just did a terrible job on design and handling. Its too long for the amount of space inside, the interior is Toyotas usual monotone plastic trash, and the handling is sloppy. Ford can do all of those things better.
