A look at the 2027 Hyundai Santa Fe.

The Hyundai Santa Fe is already getting ready for a mid-cycle refresh. The illustration above seems to match the many spy shots of the revised SUV we have already seen.

It seems the current generation just came out, but it’s already been over 2 years. However, it seems Hyundai is in a hurry to modify it. Sales in the US have not been as good as they had hoped. The previous generation was still selling over 131,000 units in 2023. That number dropped to 113,343 in 2024. And not much better in 2025. Maybe changing things that drastically from one generation to the next was too much.

From the illustration above, it seems the front end will be all new and will make the Santa Fe look newer than it is. The rear end is also due for a redesign. Interior spy shots show a switch to alarge center screen, like everything else these days. A much more genericl set up than the current version.

I have to say, I was a bit disappointed when I saw the new Hyundai Santa Fe a couple of years ago at the Los Angeles auto show. In person, it looked a bit cheap. And the interior wasn’t that impressive. It’s one of these cars that actually looked a bit better and more upscale in photos.

There is also a lot of cheap-looking black plastic trim all over the place. Which doesn’t help…

Maybe the current generation got too weird? In that case, it seems making it even more strange looking might not be the best answer…

  1. “Maybe the current generation got too weird?”
Couldn’t agree more. This SUV can definitely use a lot of nip & tuck to tone down some of the weirdness. Especially the rear. I think they should rethink and redesigned the whole liftgate.
And please, bring some colors back, no more “mandatory” gray.

  2. The Santa Fe is too dumpy as is. They need to heighten it visually with a more aggressive front end with a fake skid plate and on the rear the low tail lamps aren’t helping anything. They’re dumpy. Reminiscent of an old El Camino or Malibu Wagon from the 80s.

  3. I think the previous generation Santa Fe had an understated elegance and sophistication to its exterior design that is sorely missing from the current generation. Even the interior of the previous generation looked more upscale than the current generation. Hyundai transformed it into a big cheap looking box. I really don’t think revising the front and rear styling is going to magically transform this monstrosity into anything remotely attractive, but I hope I’m wrong. We’ll see…
