2026 Toyota bZ7 Platinum.

The bZ7 is a Toyota EV sedan that is, so far, only available in China. This new Platinum model appears to be the top trim, and it includes an amazingly high-end interior that genuinely elevates the car into true luxury territory.

We first saw the bZ7 a few months ago, but this latest version adds even more presence and refinement. Personally, I think this might just be Toyota’s best-looking sedan ever. The proportions are sleek, the lighting signatures are sharp, and the overall stance feels premium and modern. The only real mistake is the obvious lack of a proper hatchback. Instead, it has a surprisingly small trunk opening, which limits practicality. With its fastback-like profile, it could have been an incredibly versatile liftback. That one change would have made it nearly perfect.

Still, both the exterior and interior design would have made a fantastic new Avalon replacement in North America. In fact, the bZ7 looks significantly better than the new 2026 Lexus ES sedan. At 202 inches long, it’s also the same size as the Lexus. The cabin design in particular stands out, with upscale materials, elegant design and a clean, tech-forward dashboard layout. The Platinum trim adds impressive features such as air suspension, independent rear air conditioning, and enhanced rear passenger comfort. This is a true luxury car wearing a Toyota badge.

Two battery packs are available: 71.35 kWh and 88.13 kWh. They deliver claimed ranges of 375 miles and 437 miles respectively, though those figures are based on the optimistic Chinese CLTC test cycle. Real-world numbers would likely be lower under EPA testing, but they are still competitive for a large electric sedan.

The new bZ7 would fit perfectly in U.S. showrooms next to the all-new 2027 Toyota Highlander. Both models share a similar design language, especially inside, where the door panel patterns and overall styling feel closely related. Toyota is clearly developing a more unified and upscale brand identity.

Unfortunately, if Toyota ever considered bringing a large EV sedan to the U.S., the bZ7 might be too close to the Lexus ES in size and market positioning. Ironically, it may even be better looking. That internal competition could be exactly why we may never see it here.

And that really is a shame—because this could have been Toyota’s most compelling modern sedan yet.
