The 2027 Toyota Highlander looks familiar.

Toyota has just unveiled the all-new Highlander and it is a complete reset for the good old Toyota SUV. It is now a brand new 3 row EV. And Toyota is gutsy enough to just call it Highlander. And not Hoghlander EV or even BZ something. Which I think is a great move.
However, it does look very familiar. Which is because we saw this design 5 years ago when Toyota did a giant EV announcement, back in 2021. The 3-row SUV was part of the presentation. And as you can see, so was a Lexus version (on the left above the Highlander).

The all-new Highlander is quite a refreshing departure from most current Toyota designs. (Except for the Prius) A much more modern shape than the new 2026 RAV4. And a huge improvement over the ghastly Grand Highlander.
Same thing inside. While I personally don’t like these tablet screens, at least the new Highlander offers a row of physical controls under it. And the whole interior seems really nice, premium, and modern. With many design touches here and there. Which is something you don’t usually associate with Toyota interiors.
The new Highlander will be available in the usual Toyota trims, which are XLE and Limited. The XLE will be available in FWD or AWD. With a choice of a 77.0kWh battery or a larger 95.8kWh battery. While the Limited comes with the larger battery and standard AWD. With an EV range up to 320 miles for the AWD versions.
Apparently, all versions come with captain chairs for the second row. With a bench seat available on the XLE AWD.
Production of the new Highlander starts in late 2026. So we won’t be seeing one around for a while.
Depending on its price, I think the new Highlander could be quite a hit. So far, its main competition will be the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9. The Highlander design seems very attractive, and Toyota’s reputation will help as well.
This seems to be a winning number already.
