New face for the revised 2027 Genesis G90.

The current Genesis G90 sedan stands as the flagship of the Hyundai Motor Group. It is the most expensive, most luxurious, and most traditional model in the lineup. At least until the all-new GV90 electric SUV makes its debut. When that happens, the mantle of technological and design leadership will almost certainly shift. For now, though, the G90 still wears the crown as Genesis’ purest expression of old-school luxury values.
The G90 will be getting some revisions for the 2027 model year. So far, many prototypes have been caught testing in Korea, but the new face is still a mystery.
The illustrations above are trying to guess what it looks like. And they show what could be a more realistic update than the image I posted a few days ago. Which would make the G90 look much more like the upcoming GV90 EV. These new images are also much closer to the recent wagon concept we saw a few weeks ago. Which could preview the new face.
The G90 traces its lineage back to the Hyundai Equus, a car that often feels forgotten but deserves more credit than it gets. Hyundai later sold the second-generation model in the U.S. as the Hyundai Genesis, a confusing but telling decision that hinted at broader ambitions. The third generation finally emerged as the Genesis G90 under the newly established luxury brand, marking a clean and necessary break from Hyundai’s mainstream identity. The current G90 arrived for the 2023 model year, yet it somehow feels older than that, perhaps because its design favors restraint and maturity over flash or trend-chasing.
Today, the G90 has grown into a genuinely impressive full-size luxury sedan. One that can credibly compete with the best in the segment, particularly the Lexus LS in the U.S. market. In many respects, the G90 feels like the spiritual successor to what the LS once represented: quiet excellence, comfort prioritized over athleticism, and a strong emphasis on craftsmanship and serenity. With Lexus recently discontinuing the LS, Genesis is reportedly preparing a refresh of the G90 for the 2027 model year. Whether it reaches the U.S. remains uncertain, especially given that just 1,687 units were sold here last year. While that figure represents the strongest year for this generation, it is still vanishingly small, even by large luxury sedan standards.
The illustration above previews what a revised front-end design could look like, one that aligns more closely with the design language expected on the upcoming GV90 SUV. Such a shift would be welcome. The current Superman-shield grille feels oversized and oddly aggressive for a car so clearly focused on calm, dignity, and understated elegance. A cleaner, more horizontal fascia would better reflect the G90’s personality and long-wheelbase gravitas.
Truthfully, it’s difficult to pinpoint what Genesis can meaningfully improve on the G90 at this stage. Ride quality, interior craftsmanship, and overall refinement are already standout attributes. That said, persistent rumors suggest a hybrid variant may be in the works, and that feels like the most logical evolution. Improved efficiency paired with seamless, effortless torque could enhance the experience without compromising the character that makes the G90 special in the first place.
