Why a New Jeepster Makes More Sense Than a Jeep Scrambler.

From the Stellantis official presentation a few weeks ago, we’ve learned that a new Jeep Wrangler Scrambler was coming. That just sounds like a shorter, 2 door version of the Jeep Gladiator pickup. Which, in my opinion, is not at all what Jeep needs. It needs a new Jeepster.
The Jeepster is a more interesting model. It came out in 1948, back when Willis still owned the brand. With Jeep covering many new different markets these days, it makes you wonder what a new 4-seat Jeepster convertible could look like…
The original Jeepster was only produced from 1948 to 1950. It was basically Jeep’s first attempt at a civilian car. Longer, roomier, and more comfortable than the good old army Jeep.
The idea was revived in 1966 until 1971 as the Jeepster Commando. The range was then extended to a 2 seater roadster, a convertible, a pickup, and a 2 door wagon.
A second generation came out in 1972 and produced for just 2 years. The name Jeepster was dropped and it was just called Commando. By then it had abandoned the classic Jeep front end.
TheJeep Gladiator is just a pickup version of the current Wrangler. The Gladiator came out almost 7 years ago. And we already know a new Wrangler might be coming in a couple of years. A 2 door version of a 7 year old vehicle doesn’t sound that great. However, a brand new 2 door Jeep would have some appeal. Especially a fun looking Jeepster. One that could easily be base on the same platform as the new Compass. The Compass, at least in Europe, will be offered with ICE, Hybrid, PHEV and even EV powertrains. Covering basically every need.
This would be a gamble of course, but could also open up a brand new market for Jeep.
How about it?
