Ghastly 2027 Mercedes AMG SUV .

As we barely recover from the sight of the new Mercedes AMG Sedan unveiled a few months ago, we now get to see what the SUV model will look like. And just as expected, it is pretty ghastly. A sad display of what Mercedes design has become in the 21st century.

Of course there are Mercedes stars everywhere, since that seems to be the trend these days. These star headlights are one of the tackiest car design elements in years. It’s almost a joke. The exterior is heavy-handed and at the same time, totally unoriginal. It seems we have seen this SUV shape a million times before. Mercedes just crafted the horrible plasticky rear end from the AMG Sedan onto it and basically called it a day.

The front end isn’t better, but it seems to actually work a little better on the taller SUV than on the sedan. I guess we are used to seeing big, cheap-looking, plasticky grilles on SUVs. And it’s not that shocking anymore, although it should be.

Just like the sedan, the interior is basically a formidable display of everything that is wrong with interior car design in the 21st century. The tacky “quilted” seats. Screens everywhere. And that horrendous light show from a 1970’s Las Vegas motel room. That gaudy carbon fiber trim doesn’t help either…

The amount of cheesy black plastic trim on this car is actually pretty staggering. No matter what amount of it you plaster all around, this is still a very boring, unoriginal shape.

I really think a $130,000 Mercedes deserves something better…
