2012 Honda Civic sedan
Last Updated:
No surprises here.
Just like we thought, this all new design looks a lot like the previous one.
And the interior, at least to me, looks older than the current car.
A blockier version of the previous one.
And they’re also keeping the rather depressing 80’s looking beige interior. No tan here. Old fashion beige will do…
It still has a 5 speed auto. Engine is a 1.8 Liter with 140hp.
Except the Si which uses a larger 2.4 Liter with 200hp.
The smaller engine should return 39MPG on the freeway. While the 2.4 Liter is rated at 31.
Nothing breathtaking….
Did someone tack on the back of an old Dodge Neon (A-Pillar to the back) to the current front end of a Honda Civic Sedan? Sure looks like what Honda is passing off a 2012 Civic. I thought the 90's were over!
Somebody slap the designer of all Honda and Acura vehicles PLEASE!
Even if the exterior looked good, the dashboard has so many angles going on that you don't know where to look. The dash is an abomination.
Did they at least make it quieter? What have they been doing for the last 6 years?
For once the sedan looks better than the coupe. The coupe is horrendous but at least the sedan looks a little better.
This is it? Really? Not very promising.
Honda design and engineering have clearly been on vacation since developing the last model. This is pathetic the outgoing car looks modern compared to this.
Why did they put that fixed window pane in the front doors – does this somehow save them money? Also notice on the sedan how the small triangular piece ahead of the front doors is now blocked – the prior version was a small window (which was actually useless).
Would someone actually buy this thing over a new Elantra? That interior looks at least 20 years old and I think I'm being charitable when I say that. The Styling? This thing makes a Corolla look gorgeous.
i like the honda and acura designs and this too will sell. And I own a 2009 Acura TSX and I love it. The 2012 Civic will sell, just like every Honda and Acura product.

Agree!
imho the sedan exterior isn't terrible = better than most HondAcuras
but that dash :barf:
the center looks like it was designed by Picasso (NOT a compliment) …don't think anybody designed the rest of it 🙁
Samuel, I own a 2008 Acura TSX. great car. But I will be the first to criticize Honda/Acura styling of late. Very watered down (Civic), to rediculous (TL, Accord Crosstour). Honda generally is more successful with their styling and engineering of their small cars. Looks as if this small car just might be a disappointment.
Give me a Cruze anyday over this ugly car!
If it looks bad now, then what about in 4 – 5 years from now before the next one comes out?
How odd – a once great company and leader in its field just decides to give up…
Honda's strength is not in their exterior (or interior for that matter) designs; it's in their predictability and reliability. And that's how they have always been. The notion that every model year needs a dramatic change in looks is not a big deal with Honda. They are what they are and probably will remain that way.
The interior is absolutly horrid!! And the exterior is pretty bad too! What the hell is Honda smoking?? The new Elantra makes this car look like a big pile of dog crap…
samuel,
You're a lemming. Honda was once a decent brand. Everyone else has moved on. Please keep up.
Another Honda bowel movement.
These new Civics are a bloody joke. Sad to say my 1998 Prelude SH was the best car Honda ever made. Everything after that just went downhill big time.
I never thought I'd be saying that the Americans are now making much better vehicles overall in terms of design / engineering than Honda these days.
Hello Chevy Cruz or Ford Focus for me.
This redesign saved Honda a TON of money. Should have skipped the effort and used the money to invest in what made the company great. Engine technology.
Seriously…did someone at Honda lose a bet?
They Hybrid sounds interesting though. Sounds very 'Prius' vs. another 'Insight'…that is promising.
Wow, each new, Honda/Acura redesign makes me long for last decade more and more! I have had 8, new Honda products since 1992 and the last new one I was willing to purchase was a 2006 Accord. Since then, I wouldn't be caught dead in a new Honda product, except maybe a Civic Si. Now, that's dead to me, too!
It is so bad that when the occasion came-up to replace the 2006 Accord in 2009, I bought a certified, 2005 TSX with 20K miles, instead of one of the current abominations they are peddling… Sad, sad, sad…
People who say they'd take a Cruze over the new Civic makes me laugh. Guess they don;t know what the Cruz is rifing on. Remember the Daewoo based Suzuki Forenza? Well…there's your new Cruze. Never judge a book by it's better looking cover…
rear lights from a Neon, front side window line from a sentry. Next sentry looks like an Altima, it will eat this dud whole. At least it's no toyota corolla…hahahahahaha!
Can I say I told you so now? I've been saying that the Elantra is 1 generation ahead of the civic and this proves it. Hyundai can add direct injection to the Elantra engine during the next refresh and Honda will have to play catch up yet again. Instead of using that year delay to make the Civic better then the competition; they just made it more competitive. Now they are on the verge of getting lapped again. Honda's mockery continues.
Perhaps not the most innovative design but I guess Honda designers didn't want to mess with a good thing or with what they know will work for the majority of their buyers.
Well, I had a 98 Civic, 98 Prelude, and now a 04 TSX, suffice to say the halcyon era of Honda is over, time to get something else next time after seeing this.
Jeez, am I the only one who doesn't think it is that bad??? I really don't like the A pillar and door pillar but everything else looks like it should be just fine.
The HF model is supposed to get REALLY good fuel economy and the Civic Hybrid has been improved significantly.
It is almost like it is cool to bash Honda now.

Even if that were accurate, I'd take it over this Honda.

This is actually very telling. You talk as if they were behind. Honda fans always try to convince people that they are class leading. You're basically saying Honda is playing catch up. Nothing Honda is offering leads the industry in anything. People are starting to see that now. It's not bashing; it's an awakening.
@ne1butu thats your opinion about Honda/Acuras but I will keep up by staying with the Honda/Accord brand. If thats makes me a lemming so be it. I love the new designs just as much as the old designs.
And that's not accurate…The Cruze is on GM's Delta platform, primarily engineered by Opal for the Astra. It gets great reviews all over the world.

I agree COMPLETELY!
I don't mean to keep kicking Honda – but the dash looks unusually overdone for a Honda.
Like the Chysler products – I'll await until I see them in person before passing judgement. Similar to the outcome of Chysler – I hope I'm wrong w/ my initial assessments.

False, it has received lukewarm reviews and its sales throughout the world prove its mediocrity.
The Cruze simply isn't that great of a vehicle.
