2012 Buick compact sedan
Last Updated:
After the regal, Buick will be offering this even smaller model in the US next year.
These pictures are of the Chinese Buick Excelle GT .
But just like the Regal, Chinese and US versions will be pretty much the same.
And both are sedans versions of the Opel Astra.
The hatchback is also sold in China, but won’t be coming to the US. At least in the near future.
(GM is actually considering the hatch version of the Regal/Insignia for the US)
It will have a new name when it ends up over here…
Buicks now look alot like Lexus, funny how thing go around.
This thing is hideous. That rear end with the chrome strips makes me want to vomit.
Keep it in China.
Buick! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a Regal 5 door for the USA! I promise I'll buy one, especially if you make a GS version!
This Excelle looks great! It should be one of the nicest looking small cars on the market here when it comes out. I'm guessing this car will have push button starting? If so I think they could have styled the steering column a little better.
I gotta admit i like it. but…and the big but is, it will depend on how much sticker shock will come with it. The problem with entry "luxury" vehicles is that they are priced high enough that stepping up to the next car up in the chain isn't such a big deal when it comes to car payments. Look at the the A3 and A4 – hit most car showrooms and they A3's are loaded with options but you can find a basic A4 for a couple thousand more so averaging it out in car payments and it just means no more daily starbuck trips for most folks.
Compared to the European Astra this Buick is a real downstep. The Astra is stunning, but this just looks totally conservative…
ugly piece of chinese junk. they can keep it in china like somoene else already said.
Okay.
What's the appeal? It's not much of a looker. This thing better haul ass if they expect to see a bunch of these…
I kinda like it. VERY conservative. But it's much smarter looking than the junk coming from Acura and Lexus.
Hyundai's new Elantra looks much substantial. It's just not good enough for the US market.
I like the front a LOT!
very tasty
the back – not so much
it's too tame

Uhhhmmmm, speak for yourself.
I'd take a TSX or an IS any day of the week over this Chinese monstrosity.
With a 1 liter turbo engine….
"I'd take a TSX or an IS any day of the week over this Chinese monstrosity."
The TSX is pretty much a flop. The IS is a car for sorority girls. This is pretty invisible, but it is attractive and will appeal to the most people. Judging by the cheap plastic piece where the key should be, the Chineseness is apparent. Unless it's built in the US, Europe, Canada or Mexico, it's going to fail miserably. No one wants or needs any more Chinese garbage than we already have.
What will it be called?
Buick Insignia?
"I'd take a TSX or an IS any day of the week over this Chinese monstrosity."
Agree totally, those are the two cars that these manufacturers did not destroy. Both Honda and Toyota have outbuilt GM for the last 30 years, by outbuild I mean quality, technology, styling…..
Now you can say GM has changed, but, as for a US manufacturer Ford is the one that really has world class quality. Ironically, has not totally reached our shores, but, it is coming! (no fiesta yet, old focus, old exploder, old escape……)
It's at least not as bad as a Acura CSX we have here in Canada. Somebody saw it?
I would love if Buick attached the "Allure" name to this when it arrives in the US.. that was the previous name for the LaCrosse in Canada, and to me a much better one.
This model might be slightly based on the new Opel Astra, but it is stripped of everything premium, from the headlights, external trim, mirrors to the interior.
