GMC Granite.

Back in 2010, GM introduced the idea of a smaller GMC model with a new concept car called the Granite.

While the Granite never made it to production, the illustration above shows what a new small GMC EV could look like. One based on the upcoming next-generation Chevrolet Bolt. A small EV with better capacities than its Chevrolet cousin.

The Granite concept was based on GM’s delta platform also used by the Chevrolet HHR and Cobalt. The concept features GM’s 1.4 Liter Ecotech engine with 138HP.

A new compact GMC model would of course be based on the Ultium platform and have much more power available, as well as AWD. GM has for years claimed they want to widen GMC’s offerings and even turn the brand into a global brand. A smaller SUV with standard AWD would be the most obvious way to go.

Right now GMC is still mostly fancier versions of Chevrolet models. However, GM has been giving the brand unique interiors in the past few years. Which is a good sign. But there is still no GMC version of the new Chevrolet Equinox EV or anything similar to the Blazer EV.

GMC could also have a version of the new Cadillac Escalade IQ EV. With of course its own design. There is room and platforms to create a richer lineup for the brand if GM really wants to.
