Chrysler Cordoba.

Last Updated:

The illustration above shows what a modern-day Chrysler Cordoba could look like.

Since everything coming up from Stellantis is based on the STLA platform, this one would be too. It could actually be a Chrysler version of the new Dodge Charger, with very similar specs. Back in the 1970’s the Cordoba was actually almost a twin to the 1978 Dodge Magnum. (Although the Chrysler version came first in 1975).

That first generation Cordoba was very popular and many claim it actually saved the Chrysler brand.

A second generation came out in 1980 and was far less popular. By then, the market for a big 2 door car had already shrunk. Even though Chrysler had first marketed the Cordoba as a “Small car”.

Of course, there is no way a large-door coupe could save Chrysler today. What Chrysler needs is a couple of SUVs and maybe a new sedan. And of course, a new Minivan.

Still, the platform is already here, under the 2025 Charger. A new STLA larger-based coupe could be quieter than ever. And just like the old Cordoba was successful by giving you the look and feel of a more expensive car, a smooth-riding STLA base coupe could also be quite luxurious.

The old Cordoba was not only described as “small”, but also “Luxurious yet surprisingly affordable”. Or ” the picture of style and taste”.

These days, the famous (New Jersey) Corinthian Leather could finally be standard. However, Ricardo won’t be back. Unless his family makes a lucrative “A.I. deal” with Stellantis…

  1. Thanks for taking me back to my childhood with the Cordoba, but Stellantis does not have the imagination for a car like this.

  2. Ricardo had to learn to say CorDOba in the ads instead of the correct pronunciation of CORdoba.

Reinstating the round headlamps and standard RCL seats on the modern Cordoba is a good look.

  3. I constantly see articles, posts, or discussion boards touting artist renderings of what a “supposed” model of a classic nameplate would look like today and quite frankly it is disappointing! Send the information to R&D at Chrysler and advocate for concept to production plain and simple.
Chrysler needs to be saved YET again and brought back to American ownership! The Italians and French have utterly decimated the sales, quality, and historical significance of a once great automotive powerhouse in Detroit.
Stellantis should have taken Frank B. Rhodes offer of bringing Chrysler Group back under American ownership! It’s time to #MakeAmericanAutosGreatAgain and it starts with Chrysler being saved. If Lee Iacocca was still alive he would advocate strongly for its revival! I will get off my soapbox now.

  4. If Chrysler came back with the Cordoba or the Imperial – this would definitely change the brand Every car on the road now a days look just like the next car. Almost every car is a SUV – if Chrysler came out with what a Cordoba could look like today – people will definitely buy it. We need to see a new two door luxury coupe. Chrysler is the company that can make it happen. Let Dodge take care of the muscle car, trucks and SUV’s while Chrysler works on the classy luxury cars it’s always been known for.

  5. Do it, and while you’re at it make it reliable and easy to work on. It’s time for someone to stand out and build a good car.

  6. I had a Green 77 Cordoba with nice rims, tinted windows and a killer Pioneer stereo. Great times cruising through EKU campus.😁

  7. Cordoba was classy unique luxurious in its life and maybe resurrecting it might not be such a bad idea for it’s second life
It was beautiful then, it could be beautiful again!! Stellantis holds the future for any and all Chrysler brands!

  8. Cardoba is beautiful. Could be produced w/Opel and sold as Insignia in Europe. Chrysler, to survive, needs to team up w/Opel and Vauxhall for a global hyperbrand.
I was annoyed when GM sold Ooel because they built great cars for Buick. Mokka would be a perfect PT Cruiser. Chrysler mini van could sell as an Opel w/ a CUV the same platform.
In general, I support Stellantis US (Chrysler Cotp) getting it’s own CEO apart from European operations with the Company (MOPAR & EPAR) responsible for creating platforms/powertrains and parts. It would be up to the two CEOs to decide what vehicles get shared and where they are built.
Hyandai allows KIA to operate as a seperate company only offering up the parts bin. This should be an inspiration for the New Stellantis (parts maker) plus Chrysler and PSA divisions. Commitment by the Agnelli and Peugeot families co ui led yet save this mess
