Tesla Model Q.

Last Updated:

Today we have yet another rumor about a future smaller and cheaper Tesla model. Which would now be called the “Model Q”.

According to Carscoops, this new report is the result of a Deutsche Bank report mentioning the new Tesla model, and the name “Model Q”.

Tesla was working on a smaller and cheaper model for a while until a report from Reuters last April saying Tesla had canceled plans for the smaller car. Crazy Elon of course called them out by saying it was a lie. And yet, we have heard nothing about the new or canceled model since. However, Mr.Musk himself said last October that a $25,000 Tesla was “pointless and silly”. This went against his previous statement from September 2022 about Tesla’s next-generation platform supporting both a new smaller and less expensive mass-market car as well as the Cyper cab.

Last June, Must showed some upcoming models under cover while saying ” Obviously, we’ve got some new products we’re working on under the covers. I think these are going to be pretty special. I think people at first may think, oh, it’s not going to be that amazing, but just wait, it will be”. Musk also mentioned more affordable Tesla models were on their way for 2025. Something that was understood by many to be decontended versions of the Model 3 and Model Y.

Now we have this Model Q bit of news. Which is probably what Musk was talking about as the cheaper model. It is rumored to cost under $38,000 before incentives. Which could become $30,000 if the current incentives survive the next administration.

The Q is also rumored to be smaller than the Model 3.

To me, it seems a bit fishy that Tesla was able to design and engineer an all-new model in such a short time. (Since the smaller car cancelation). Musk had mentioned new models using the current platform, which could be a way to expedite things. If it is indeed smaller than the 3, could dit just be a decontended hatchback version of the Model 3? Which wouldn’t be something all-new.

There is also a rumor of a long-wheelbase version of the Model Y with a roomier 3rd row of seats. Which would be for the Chinese market at first. I am sure there is a market for a roomier Tesla priced way below the Model X, but the Model Y will be 5 years old next month. it will not look new in any way.

Especially in the crucial Chinese market, Tesla models are getting old pretty fast. It seems there are so many more competitive models from many local manufacturers coming out every week. The only new Tesla model we have actually seen prototypes of is the revised Model Y for 2025. The 5-year-old model will be getting mostly the same changes the Model 3 got last year.

Musk is currently all over the place and seems to have grown bored with the car business. It seems Tesla needs more focus and a serious plan for a series of all-new models.

Sooner than later…

  1. Why anyone still thinks Elon has much to do with the actual running of Tesla is a mystery. The shareholders are happy for him to continue operating as spokesman, but they won’t let him anywhere near product development.

  2. There will be people who buy it, who just need the “new” factor in their lives. Something to make themselves seem interesting or advanced to others. I’m just waiting for him to “save us all” in his new role. Buyer beware.

  3. To me, it seems a bit fishy that Tesla was able to design and engineer an all-new model in such a short time.

Why? Tesla has different R&D projects going on all the time. If the Highland prototype pic had not leaked out this spring, we would not have known about it. The next gen platform is about how its assembled. A shortened 3 platform made with present tooling will work fine.

BTW, the Tesla Model 3 made Car and Driver’s Top 10

  4. Crazy Elon, is the best thing I read in that article.

I wouldn’t buy anything that idiot sells, besides poor Tesla quality, his political views and alliances are against humanity and the interest of the world.

  5. Hey Vince, I’ve been a fan for so many years and I admire your points of view and opinions and vehicles. I really love cars and I truly visit your website at least 5 times per week. Great job.
HOWEVER, the minute anyone stars getting political, specially in our country now, will loose 50% of fan, followers, etc. WHY, WHY get political. I was never able to understand why actors, singers would do that. Their income is base an talent not political points of view. Bad mouthing Musk or anyone else is not cool.
Please stick to what you do so well and let’s keep politics out. Just my two cents and please keep up the good work.
