Kia EV7: new illustration.

Last Updated:

While Hyundai was quick to show us a sedan version based on their EV platform, the Ioniq 6, Kia doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to introduce a possible EV7.

It would be relatively quick and easy to come up with a Hyundai Ioniq 6 cousin, or so it seems. Unless Hyundai/Kia is waiting to see how the Ioniq 6 is doing. I personally cannot see great success in the US, with the Ioniq 6 being priced so much higher than the Tesla Model 3. A base Ioniq 6 is already about $2000 more than the standard RWD Tesla Model 3. But if you want to match the Tesla’s equipment, you basically need to get the Limited version starting at over $57 000 for the RWD/270 miles range version. The model 3 RWD is currently priced at $43 000.

After the EV9 we will be getting a smaller EV5 SUV, recently previewed by a really cool-looking concept. And there are already talks about a smaller EV4 Crossover as well. But so far, I haven’t heard of a sedan. Following their recent designs, I’m sure Kia could come up with something really good-looking as an Ioniq 6 cousin. Maybe they are waiting a few years until they can truly replace the K5 with an electric model. Something more affordable than the Ionioq 6.

Who knows…

  1. I really like this one. The thing I want most is an electric equalent to the CEED, with a hatch and an estate version. What would be a great name for that?
