Honda Element.

The 2 pictures on top are patent images from Honda. They date back from 2022, and they seem to show what a new-generation Honda Element could look like.

The top image seems to show an optional addition on the back for camping purposes. There is also another image showing a compact pickup with a different design, not a pickup version of the Honda Element. Although both would probably use the same platform and powertrains.

Of course, it all seems like a good idea. However, as we know, this never happened. At least so far.

It seems a new generation Honda Element based on the Civic Hybrid platform with an AWD option would be a no-brainer. But that’s not the Honda way these days. Unlike Honda in the 80’s and 90’s, this isn’t a company that takes risks and innovates anymore. If you can call a new generation of an older model innovation.

But somehow, they found a way to come up with a new Honda Prelude. A 2 door coupe that will no doubt have a much more limited appeal than a new Element. Even with a Hybrid powertrain.

A new compact pickup would also be a good addition to the lineup…

  1. For the Prelude, I’m expencting the 2.0L hybrid, with a surprise – either they will increase the electric motor size (from Civic sized to the Accord’s), or more likely they’ll increase the discharge output from the battery to the existing Civic motor and begin employing some of the lightweight technologies they eluded to in their Spring’24 presentation. Keeping weight down is the same as adding power. Personally, I’d love if they kept the Civic’s hybrid powertrain but added the 3rd e-motor to the rear axel for AWD, the saw that Acura’s e-SH-AWD did about a decade ago. THAT would be interesting, even if unlikely.

  2. I like CX’s theory about the upsized engine for the upcoming Prelude.. especially considering the first Prelude was essentially a 2+2-bodied Civic with a larger Accord-sized (but slightly uprated) motor. If they don’t do this, the new Prelude would be nothing but a Civic coupe.

  3. @zoomer My guess is it will be targeted and spec’d as a Civic Coupe… but a hybrid Civic Si coupe with full leather and Accord level features (HUD, lumbar adjust seats, etc…) similar to the last couple gen Preludes.

  4. I am convinced that the only reason there’s a new “Prelude” is so Honda can keep the trademark active. Especially since the new Prelude seems to be nothing more than a restyled previous generation Civic Coupe. This trademark protection plan may prompt the creation of a new Element. It would be great if it was an EV, but it will probably just be a hybrid.

  5. Go EV Element PLEASE! You won’t believe how well it will do. Next Gen 1000%
