2025 Volvo XC90.
Last Updated:
Volvo is refreshing the good old XC90 SUV for the new model year.
It is quite an extensive refresh and right here is the place to see it before the masses. The rest of the world will have to wait until September 4th.
Even though it has not been announced yet, I wouldn’t be surprised if the revised Volvo XC90 were only offered as a PHEV, at least in the US. A refreshed XC90 sold alongside the all-new EX90 EV was always planned and was mentioned before the XE90 came out.
The current Volvo XC90 started production in 2015, which will be 10 years by the time the face-lifted model comes out. The current model starts at around $57,000 in the US. Which is much cheaper than the new $78,000 EV 90 EV. However, the XC90 Recharge PHEV starts at $72,000. Which makes no sense and is actually more expensive than the EX90 after incentives. The current XC90 Rechager PHEV is also ratged at just 32 miles of EV range. Something that will probably be improved with the revised version.
The recently introduced Mercedes GLC PHEV offers a very impressive 54 miles of EV range. While the Volvo is larger and roomeir, it still needs to do better than 32 miles for $72,000.
The new EX90 has had a rough launch. After many production delays, it finally became available recently, however Volvo had already announce that some features would be missing form the early cars. Features like Apple Car play, Lidar of Bi-directional charging.
The smaller EX30 has also been recalled in Europe nad been delayed again for the US market, mostly due to the huge tarriff on Chinese cars. The EX30 models we will be getting will probably now come from the Belgian factory instead of China.
It will be interesting to see how a 10 year old model will do in the market place. And if the changes will be enough to keep it fresh. It seems to have worked fine for the 2025 Toyota Camry, which Toyota advertised as a brand new model. While itis actually a facelift version of the 2017 Camry.
The current XC90 is already 10 years old?? I remember when the previous generation reached that point…
Oh shit, there’s that stupid BMW X3 diagonal grille bar thing again. Guess we’ll be seeing that crap everywhere now.
