Possibilities of a new large Cadillac convertible, like the Eldorado Convertible used to be. For many decades, the convertible version of the Cadillac Eldorado was one of the pinnacles of the American car industry.
Since the last Eldorado Convertible rolled off the assembly lines in 1976, there have been a few more convertibles from the luxury brand. Like the Allante or the XLR. But nothing as crazy and opulent as a real Eldorado Convertible.
For some reason, GM just bought a 2 door convertible version of the word Celestiq and decided to call it Sollei. Without any “IQ” at the end. The Celestiq is already over $340,000, so you can imagine how much an even more expensive convertible version would be. I also think the Celestiq proportions do not work on a convertible design. It just looks odd.
What the old-guard Cadillac fans would love to see is a true rebirth of the Eldorado convertible. GM has been using the new Ultium platform for many new cars and SUVs of varying different sizes. And Cadillac is working on 2 all-new EV sedans based on that same platform. Maybe someone at GM is crazy enough to green-light a convertible based on one of the sedans. Which sounds impossible and probably is. Although we could still see another convertible concept based on these.
Meanwhile, we can only imagine what a new large Cadillac convertible could look like. It doesn’t have to be fast or sporty. Just fancy and luxurious. Something Cadillac is trying to do with their new SUVs. But an Escalade IQ will never look as good as a sleek and luxurious convertible.
