Acura Integra. Coupe & Sedan.
Last Updated:
These illustrations show what a next-generation Acura Integra could look like with the addition of a 2 door coupe.
And yes, that coupe is a long shot. However, we will soon see the rebirth of the 2 door Prelude, so why not…
I remember right before the new Integra actually came out, Acura had published a great-looking teaser. Showing part of the rear bumper with the name Integra. It was actually a bit of a letdown when the car came out.
There is still a lot of the Honda Civic inside. Acura did the exact same thing with the new ADX, which has also the exact same ungainly proportions as the Honda H-RV, which isn’t the best.
The next generation Honda Civic will probably be a more dynamic design, at least let’s hope. And a new Integra could use a nicer design too. What it could also use is a standard Hybrid powertrain from the current Civic hybrid. Which is vastly superior to the older 1.5 Liter Turbo with a CVT combo. Of course, it is still available with a 6-speed manual with the Integra, and probably close to no one is buying that.
Sales of the Integra in general have been far from fantastic with just 32,000 sold last year. And only 20,000 so far this year.
I think it basically needs to be more of an Acura. The old Integras were always related to the Honda Civic, but it wasn’t that obvious at all. This is what Acura needs to do the next time around. It doesn’t need to be that futuristic.
It will be interesting to see how the new Acura ADX does. Since it is the same recipe Acura applied to the Honda H-RV. Although, at least, the Acura has the 1.5 Liter Turbo powertrain that is not available in the Honda.
I really like the idea of a new Integra. Production has been constrained at Marysville, but its time for a refresh before a complete redesign is due in two years. For that to happen, Acura designers need to get out of their own heads. I mean, Jeez, everything is black. Black headliners, black painted bit n bobs, and black wheels. And the gawdy batman theme designs that’s still present. Enough! I dont want a car that looks like every other Buick out there. But I want to see is clean lines, nods to their past iconic cars, DWB front suspensions in ALL models, and no cost cutting. Otherwise I’d just buy a Honda. The ADX feels like even less effort than the disappointing current Integra. I owned a gen3, so I went and sat in the current one when it came out. It was an instant NO….cheap Civic knockoff, much like the ILX and RSX. But at least they eventually gave the ILX an excellent dual clutch with torque converter. This kind of thinking is just MIA at Acura.
Vince – We all know that you have bills to pay. But viewing the site on a desktop is not working out. The screen is mostly ads and your content is a fraction of the overall presentation. I realize that you have no control over the page layout, but be aware that the screen shows mostly ads with your content deeply buried. Not good. Makes the reader want to skip it entirely.
The New Civic has grown on me. It looks more German than the new Audi designs.
I like the new Civic but almost never see them around. They’ll probably keep this one for a six year cycle instead of five. If that happens, I wont be surprised if Acura products rot on the vine again with the same underwhelming platforms and engines and bad interiors through a longer product cycle. I guess that’s why there’s an ADX coming.
A real 2 door is needed, if Dodge can sell an expensive 2 door like the Charger why not Acura/Honda?
