Buick Roadmaster Sedan.

Buick just showed their all-new Electra L7 EV sedan a few days ago. It will soon be joined by an SUV and a luxury minivan. A popular body style in China.

A country where luxury sedan sales are still very popular. And a larger Buick sedan could be quite attractive to many buyers over there. Buick has asl shown a Buick GS large sedan earlier this year. But how about a new Roadmaster? Or even an Electra L8?

The Roadmaster was one of Buick‘s most famous models and started life in 1936. It wasn’t produced all the way to 1996 without any interruptions. As there was no Roadmaster produced in 1944 and 1945. And especially, the name was discontinued after 1958. Production started again for one last generation from 1991 to 1996.

After 33 years, the Buick Roadmaster returned in 1991 and shared its B-body platform with the Chevrolet Caprice sedan and wagon. As well as the Oldsmobile custom cruiser. The Cadillac version of these cars used a slightly different D-body platform.

Sales were pretty impressive in 1992, with over 70,000 sold. However, by 1996, that number had gone down to 21,500. GM discontinued the whole thing. By then, large sedans weren’t a thing anymore. And huge wagons like the Roadmaster were already being replaced by large SUVs.

GM has a very versatile Ultium platform already used on many vehicles of different sizes. An Ultium-based large Buick Roadmaster wouldn’t seem to be an impossible thing to do.

  1. Cool looking car, but I don’t think the “Roadmaster” name fits it. I think “Invicta” or “LeSabre” would be more appropriate.

  2. Buick has many excellent future sedans, please produce for the US buyers instead of Overseas.

  3. I like the look except for the long hood. EV’S dont require a huge hood, they could recapture the space for a larger interior.

  4. please get these Buick sedans available in the States We are forced to buy foreign sedans if we want a sedan. Not every driver wants a SUV or crossover I want a Buick sedan like my Buick Lucerne which give the best comfort ride of any car. It glides down the expressway.

  5. This isn’t a Buick Roadmaster. I own 2 actual Roadmasters, a 1995 hearse and a 1996 limited collector’s sedan, both 5.7L LT1 power. Whatever this thing is, is nothing like a true Buick. I hate teslas and even I think a Tesla is way better looking than this thing, What a disgrace modern cars are, or rather overpriced tablets on wheels.

  6. This would be a car I might consider as I definitely would prefer a car over a taller crossover or sport utility vehicle. A standard trunk (not a hatchback) to fully separate the rear storage from the occupants in the cabin. I good with the long hood as long as there is additional “frunk” space available under the cover. Unfortunately, I’ve got a need for a vehicle now which moved me to acquire the Chevrolet Blazer EV (yes, I know I bought an SUV, reluctantly…, i needed something). Hopefully, Buick will get their sedan here in their birth nation where we can once again enjoy the comfort of travel in a Buick worthy of the name.

  7. Looks like Buick just copied my 2019 Honda Accord Touring in Black. Don’t believe me just Google it.

  8. I love my 2010 Buick Lucerne. However the 3.8 engine in my 2006 Lucerne was peppier and gave better gas mileage. Can’t find a new vehicle as quiet, as comfortable or gives as many over all features that match my Lucerne.
It has power, performance, comfort and is very low maintenance and great mileage for its size.
And besides- a nice big trunk and lots of interior space. Bring em back & put America 1st.

  9. I had an 1992 Roadmaster with the 5.7 LT1 engine and recently found one online in the same color ( and yes I did buy it ). GM Buick I have this to say bring the made in USA ROADMASTER Back on that 1992 platform and body you make the car people will who Crave a big sedan like me will buy it especially those in their late 40’s thru early 80’s that remember this road car.

  10. I had a 1975 Buick Electra i drove for 15 years. It was beautiful! I cried when I traded it off.

  11. Buick needs to bring the sedan back to the USA. China is too far and to expensive to travel to get a car.

  12. Buick needs to build a gas powered luxury sedan and coupe with 5.7 liter high output from 500 – 600 horsepower rear wheel and all wheel drive.

  13. GM needs to let Buick build a gas powered luxury sedan and coupe with 5.7 liter high output from 500 – 600 horsepower rear wheel and all wheel drive.

  14. I’m tired of Buick showing off these beautiful cars but never building them. I was a Buick fan for many years. No more I agree vehicle never produce a car it looks anywhere near that.

  15. Buick needs to bring back cool, sexy coupes back. A Riviera for the modern age. No, it’s not the most practical car and it makes no apologies for that. A car that puts style above almost everything else.

  16. Buick needs a V8 rear wheel drive. I been own 2018 Chrysler 300, Last Call Editions 2023 Dodge Challenger and Charger. All V8 rear wheel drive. I do like American name plates. Moreover, STLA is bringing the Hemi back and Home to Michigan too
