2027 Infiniti Q50.

This might come as a big surprise, but Infiniti has indeed mentioned a few weeks ago that a new Q50 was on its way. The Japanese illustration above shows what the local version, called the Nissan Skyline, could look like. And it’s neither pretty nor modern. It could actually be described as “the last thing Infiniti needs right now”.

From the way Infiniti describes the car, it seems that the “new” model will just be a heavy facelift version of what we’ve had since 2013. And exactly what Nissan did with the current Nissan Z, which actually uses new body panels and some new interior bits judiciously used to make the car look “all-new”.

Of course, there is no way Nissan is pouring tons of money into a brand-new V6 sedan with a 6-speed manual. This is what has been described by Infiniti US.

The new car is supposed to use the same 3.0 Liter Turbo with 400HP from the Nissan Z. And a manual transmission is a strong possibility.

A car like this will sound great to a few car journalists who will no doubt praise it. However, there is currently close to zero market for such a thing in the US. If I were an Infiniti dealer, I would be panicking right now. If that’s Infiniti’s future, the brand is in more trouble than previously thought. It seems they’ve canceled their almost-ready new EV luxury sedan for this. A quickly developed stopgap at best. A last nail in the brand’s coffin at worst.

With the death of the Ariya in the US, it seems just a matter of time until someone at Nissan wakes up and realizes an expensive V6 sedan with a 6-speed manual isn’t what Infiniti needs right now.

And maybe the Infiniti brand is not what Nissan needs anymore…

  1. Nissan demonstrates how cost cutting and austerity as a business strategy don’t work medium or long term because a lack of investment signifies a lack of belief in the future, and eventually that is apparent to the consumer in cars that feel old.

  2. Need more options like this, A standard shift would be nice, searched for a year to find a nice Q50 Redsport in the colors and options we were looking for, Wife very happy now.

  3. Please tell me this is a joke. They went from having one of the sexiest cars on the market. To this Sonata looking garbage. Pleaseeeee tell me I’m being lied to

  4. I can guarantee you that the monstrosity above is NOT what the new Q50 will look like!! Nobody wants EV’s either. The country just doesn’t have the infrastructure for them and charging takes longer than filling up a a gas pump. What Nissan should be doing is going back to Project Black S hybrid technology from their Q60 . Mopar brought back the Hemi and Hellcats so Nissan/Infiniti bringing a comparable car to the market is a good thing as it’s been their niche with names like “4DooSportsCar” and “Japanese Muscle Car” and obviously “Godzilla”.

  5. Yeah this guy doesn’t seem to know what he’s talking about, sounds like a CE hater. But in reality I think more people who actually enjoy the performance side of Nissan but need a couple extra seats for family will enjoy the revival of a sports sedan that is actually that a sedan putting down enough power to compete with other sedans on the same market. Yes Infiniti Q50’s have had there issues and there has been a disconnect with the people who actually do enjoy the Infiniti brand and don’t want to see an all SUV only lineup. Let’s be real Nissan/Infiniti needs an Hail Mary that will keep an historically productive company back into the position to compete. And if you think that that ugly looking illustration will be a final thing your crazy considering the Skyline marketed in Japan and other markets looks nothing like that. In reality I think a redemption will come in the form of either a 400+ WHP RWD manual, or a 400+ WHP AWD auto or manual edition with a redesigned interior and a frontend with more aggressive curves and stance built for agility and acceleration. Nissan will use the same power they are putting in the 400 for the new q50 with an interior that’s more updated to luxury/sports sedan that enthusiast can be proud of from the inside out.
