Next Chrysler New Yorker illustration.

We keep hearing about new Chrysler models coming out. “Soon,” they say. It’s now been a few years, and things keep getting delayed or changed. There have been talks about a new Chrysler SUV and a redesigned Pacifica for years.
What Chrysler could do rather quickly is come up with their own version of the Dodge Charger 4-door sedan. A new large Chrysler sedan that could be offered with an EV or gas powertrain. Just like the Charger. Something more upscale, especially inside. And something quite large with its own American personality. Just like the Chrysler 300 was.
A New Yorker could bring back the good old Chrysler sedan in a world of SUVs. And that would mean quite a gamble for the brand. However, its CEo mentioned just a few months ago that Chrysler was going to explore new niches for these new models. A large “multi-powertrain” near luxury sedan would be a good start.
The New Yorker came out in 1940. With the last model being produced all the wya to 1996. By then, the New Yorker had become a version of the sleek Chrysler LHS sedan. It was based on Chrysler’s C-Body from 1988 to 1993. And the previous generation was probably the worst New Yorker ever since it was just a chrome-covered K-Car from 1983 to 1988.
The ones from the 1960s and 1970s were probably the ones most people remember. Giant baots with style.
It’s really hard to tell if the large American sedan is dead for good or not. Things, trends, do come back. I personally think a sedan with a rear hatch would be the way to go since it offers some of the practicality offered by SUVs. Something the Dodge Charger already offers.
