2027 Honda Odyssey illustrations.

These new illustrations really show what would be a worst-case scenario for the Honda Odyssey minivan. This is basically a lazy mid-cycle refresh of the current van with a 2026 Honda Prelude front end and rear lights crafted to it.
And this would be a terrible idea. However, maybe not such a bad one as far as actual Honda Odyssey buyers are concerned. The current generation came out back in 2017. That’s a very long time. And, for some reason, sales aren’t tanking at all. With over 80,000 of them sold last year. Which was actually up from the previous 3 years. It seems buyers don’t care how it looks or how old it is. So maybe a new front end would be enough to keep the old guy going for two or even 3 more years?
I test-drove the current Odyssey a couple of times and found it to be roomy and comfortable. A big lump of a van with pretty terrible gas mileage. But I guess that goes for most other minivans, except for the Toyota hybrid. That big Honda V6 is smooth, but always very thirsty.
But the Odyssey is also not the most current-looking thing on 4 wheels, inside and out. It is quickly falling behind.
What Honda needs is not another facelift, but an all-new generation.
Road & Track/Motor Trend both mentioned a sit down with Honda during the Japanese Mobility Show, where Honda talked about a 6cyl hybrid with 3 electric motors for its large format vehicles. That suggests that its based on an expanded 2-motor system (for AWD), but with mentioned upgrades on decreasing battery weight, structure, and motor efficiency. I would bet the Odyssey would remain FWD with a 2-motor system. While the article also mentions the Accord, I would be surprised if the Accord makes that transition.

Design for minivan is not that of a important factor I think.
Price, price and MPG is what matter most for Honda and its customers.
Gas mileage is really bad on these…
