2027 Honda Civic Coming Soon. Might Actually Look Good

The Honda Civic has long been one of the best compact cars you can buy. It’s efficient, practical, comfortable, and basically a well-rounded car. But despite all its strengths, there’s one area where it has recently fallen behind: design. For 2025, the Civic received only very minor updates. And while subtle refreshes are expected mid-cycle, this one came with noticeable cost-cutting. Rear air vents and USB ports were removed. For most buyers, that’s a step in the wrong direction. And the interior materials still feel pretty cheap (Honda seems OK with cheapo squeaking plastic door panels for some reason).

Which is why attention is already shifting to what comes next.

A full redesign is expected for the 2027 model year, and early illustrations suggest Honda may finally be ready to address the Civic’s biggest weakness. Because while the current model is good at almost everything, it simply doesn’t stand out. The new illustration above shows what the next generation could look like. Something more modern, but still pretty conservative. (I am personally wishing for something much better)

For decades, the Civic has followed an unusual pattern: every other generation truly shines. The latest version, while refined and mature, lacks the boldness and personality of its predecessor. It feels much too safe and conservative at a time when competitors are taking real design risks. A step backward.

Just look at the latest Prius. Once known purely for function, it has transformed into something sleek, sporty, and genuinely desirable. It proves that even the most practical cars can evolve into design statements.

The good news? Honda is already moving in the right direction.

Recent models and concepts show a shift toward cleaner, more expressive styling with stronger road presence. If that design language makes its way to the next Civic, we could see a much better looking car. One that finally matches its driving dynamics with standout looks.

There’s also a clear business case behind a more dramatic redesign. While Civic sales have rebounded since their dip in 2022, they haven’t fully returned to previous highs. Competition in the compact segment is tougher than ever, and buyers increasingly care about styling as much as practicality.

A more distinctive design could be the key to regaining momentum.

Even with its flaws, the 2025 Civic Hybrid remains one of the top choices in its class. It delivers excellent fuel economy, a pretty smooth ride, and everyday usability that’s hard to beat. Especially with the hatchback.

However, missing features like rear USB ports, air conditioning vents or a height-adjustable passenger seat are harder to overlook in such a competitive market.

The Civic doesn’t need to reinvent itself. It just needs to look the part again.

If Honda follows through on the more aggressive, modern direction, the next-generation Civic could once again set the benchmark. Not just for how a compact car drives, but for how it looks.

Let’s hope Honda gets it right.

  1. Why I cannot raise the stupid passenger seat? Its so low and the Accord is the same.
That is the reason I don’t drive either one.

Some of their models, their seats are so low, specially the passenger side and for older people like myself, my back will be destroy in a 30 minute drive. Also, Honda is cutting corners to make more money, GREED. No rear vents, not even a holder above the driver’s door to use it to get in or get out of the car. Interior light switches, etc.

Have you seen the rear seat of the new Honda Prelude? A $40K plus vehicle with cheap cloth and crazy useless rear seats.

It is a nice design but come on Honda, others look much better at a lower prices.

  2. Honda. Lord, where do I start? It was a mistake following the Korean trends for tail lights. The old Civic format was iconic. Just update it. Add some insulation for noise, and stop worrying about the cost of the top trim Civic Hybrid overlapping with the lowest trim ICE Accord. The top Civic should have the features you’ve cut: better seat comfort with more adjustment (driver and passenger), lumbar in top trims, better cloth options for lower trims; HomeLink garage door opener; vents and USBs in back; Something other than gray and black interiors and black headliners; optional foglights – yes! their real use is seeing things you don’t want to run over or deer on the roadsides that will total your car. LEDs headlights are too narrow in width; Some REAL sound deadening – not the anti-noise radio, or resonnators in the wheels… actual sound insulation so highway travel isn’t unbearable; and put trunk openers back in your cars FFS! I shouldn’t have to 100% use the fob to open the g** d*** trunk. While we’re on it – build your engines so they’ll last again (the 1.5t was overlay “lightened”). Put a second gear ratio on the hybrid’s e-motor direct drive transmission for highway speeds, like Mercedes Benz just did for its MMA platform for ’26CLA and ’27GLC. And don’t throw everything into a screen instead of buttons and knobs. You’re Honda! and unfortunately you’re acting like VW.

  3. The 11th gen Civic came out in MY 2022, making this the 5th model year. However Honda may push everything back another year after the recent profit losses and half capacity at Marysville, when there’s continuing high demand for the current model and the demand hybrid came out a couple years later. I suspect a full model change based on the current car for 2028. They may be wanting to see what Toyota releases with the new Corolla before they greenlight a new Civic for production.
