2028 Cadillac CT5 video.

Cadillac will end production of the current CT5 sedans after the 2026 model year. While the smaller CT4 is dead, GM is actuaslly working on a next-generation CT5. The short video above gives us a few ideas of what a second-generation Cadillac CT5 could look like.

We already know the new sedan will be based on the Alpha 2-2 platform. Which is an updated version of the current platform. From my experience with the current CT5, I really hope Cadillac turns it more into a “real” Cadillac. Something the current model is not. It is not a super comfortable car. Or a super quiet or smooth one. And not very roomy. Things that most people still expect from a Cadillac sedan.

A longer wheelbase would do wonders for the next generation. And maybe also offer a trim that isn’t so sporty. I am pretty sure the V trim with its crazy V8 will return, since speed nerds and auto journalists who don’t actually buy cars will demand it. The base 2.0 Liter Turbo should, however, be replaced by something quieter and more refined. Maybe a REV model, which would mostly be powered by an electric motor, would work? At least it could be more refined than a small gas engine.

Visually, a new generation should really find a more modern and striking design language. Something a bit more unique and impressive. The current crop of Cadillac SUVS are either overdone, like the Lyriq, or plain boring, like the Vistiq. Personality is key for a new Cadillac sedan. It really needs to stand out without being “Celestiq weird”.

Over the past year or so, there have also been rumors of 2 new fastback EV sedans coming from Cadillac. Let’s hope these are still in the cards. The EV powertrain, with its total silence and amazing power, is really better suited for a modern Cadillac. Although for those who really have zero way to plug an EV anywhere, REV could work. And still be much better than just a 2.0 Liter Turbo.

Either way, it will be great to see a new Cadillac that isn’t an SUV…

  1. Vince – I have to disagree with you regarding the styling of recent Cadillacs. I personally find the Lyriq fresh and modern. And the Celestiq is unlike any other car on the road. Something that Cadillacs always strived for – and has now achieved.

  2. Hey Anonymous,

To say that the Celestiq is unlike any other car on the road assumes there are actually Celestiqs on the road. Based on what little information Cadillac has provided, there are essentially none out there. GM said they’d build 25 for 2025. There are currently three of those 25 in dealer inventory for sale on the Internet; all in California. None have been promised for ‘26. That leaves maybe 22 to prowl the roads so they’re about as rare as some of Megan Markel’s supposedly hot-selling jam. GM originally planned to build two per day but apparently nobody’s buying.
