The Cadillac XT6 is Coming Back.

Apparently, the good old Cadillac XT6 SUV is coming back. For real. It’s official! It will come with an ICE powertrain and will join a second generation CT5 sedan and a redesigned XT5 SUV in Cadillac’s lineup. And it all starts next year.

While the previous XT6 was far from popular with around 20,000 units sold in its past year, it still did much better than its planned EV replacement, the Vistiq. That poor guy sold only around 9600 units in the first half of the year. Which is actually not surprising at all. The XT6 started at around $50,000. While its EV replacement, the Vistiq, started at $80,000! It seems the low sale numbers are just the result of a case of “severe dumbness” from GM and Cadillac. You just cannot replace a $50,000 car with an $80,000 one and expect the same sale numbers. It seems logical and pretty basic. Except for GM, I guess.

The illustrations above show a pretty conservative redesign for the next XT6, and that’s probably close. The XT6 always looked pretty lame, even when it came out. It also had the same interior than the XT5. And that’s wasn’t even good enough in the cheaper XT5 to begin with.

Since a new XT5 is also on its way, I guess these two will again be closely related. We have seen a new XT5 for the Chinese market already. it came out a couple of years ago. I guess our “new” one might just be the same one. Built somewhere in North America. It is powered by a 2.0 Liter turbo over there. It might be the same here since GM doesn’t seem to be able to offer a V6 these days. (Are these GM PHEVs ready yet???)

A little 2.0 Liter is far from the smoothness of an EV powertrain, but I guess that’s what many still want. Even in an expensive luxury car.

The XT5 and CT5 will come first, with at least one coming out next spring. While the XT6 is for later…

  1. XT6 and XT5 must have banked tons of money, despite warts. Expecting US market fit with the Chinese powertrain is foolish. Base motor should be a smaller displacement fwd gen6 V8, same for CT5 successor. If gm had a smart Caddy US playbook, Optiq and Vistiq get new generations, Escalade consolidates to just EREV’s (gm truck electrics killed and replaced).

  2. This is the thought that just popped into my head, reading this post:

If these marques want to galvanize their investment in electric propulsion, with the current state of sales reception, and provoke continued investment into the infrastructure supporting such vehicles, they should go wild with the styling of the more conventional gas engine ones. Of course, the features of electric vehicles would have to continue to support the prices charged for them, but more than one prospective driver with more conservative taste could be swayed toward a likewise-styled car with electric motors. Plus, that conservative driver could spread word powerful enough to spurn others of similar ilk to do the same.
Since we no longer have nearly as many coupes or sports cars to indulge ourselves in visually, designers could let loose their inspiration on commodity segments with gas power that would maximize desirability. I just want undiluted versions—the full extent, for that matter—of design languages like Art & Science on roads, too.

  3. Cadillac has lost its appeal and customers. The midsize suv look the same as a Chevrolet equinox. Why pay more ? Doesn’t make sense.

  4. I have a 2025 xt6 sport, and it’s amazing the ride handling and the solidness of GM’s Cadillac is outstanding thank God they got their heads out of the sand and are bringing it back

  5. XT5 hybrid I would do, fell electric as only option and I’m out. And going away from a V6 option screams bad decision. But redesign with some more storage space that is usable.
