Nissan Electric Sedan Coming After All.

Just a few years ago, Nissan was talking about 2 brand new EV sedans. One for Nissan and a more upscale version for Infiniti. And that wasn’t the first time an Infiniti EV was mentioned. We were supposed to see a production version of the 2012 Infiniti LE EV concept. Back in 2018 and 2019, both brands also showed concepts that supposedly were previewing their upcoming EV sedans.
The Nissan brand was rumored to get 2 new sedans. These would replace both the Maxima and Altima. As we know, the good old Maxima kicked the bucket back in 2023. And the Altima is rumored to be canceled for 2027. However, some Nissan execs apparently recently mentioned it was still being produced for the 2027 model year. Back when the EV sedans were on track, Nissan thought the Altima EV replacement would appear as the regular gas Altima would be canceled. Now there is no replacement for the Altima.
But that is only for a few years, since, apparently, the EV sedan (at least one) was not 100% canceled. It was just delayed. It is now rumored to appear in 2029 as a 2030 model. Last year’s decision to not produce the new EV was just a 3 year delay. However, 3 years is still a long time and who knows what will happen.
But so far, sedan sales are actually on the rise in the US and new ones are indeed coming out. Like 3 from GM next year. And something from Ford as well. And EV sales are getting stronger after a bad start this year due to the death of federal incentives. Things are actually getting much better now and Q2 sale numbers are up by around 15%. Total EV sales are about 6.5% of the US car market.
I guess in 3 years, things will be much better for EVs in the US. And Nissan’s timing could end up working on its favor.
