2028 Genesis G90 Sedan Gets a New Look, But the Interior Could Be a Bigger Change.

The current Genesis G90 sedan used to be the flagship of the whole Hyundai/Kia/Genesis group. Until yesterday when we saw the all-new GV90 electric SUV being introduced. For now, though, the G90 still wears the crown as Genesis’ old fashion expression of old-school luxury values. And it is getting a new face very soon, and a few other improvements.

The big G90 sedan will be getting some revisions for the 2028 model year. So far, many prototypes have been caught testing in Korea, but the new face is still a mystery. The new illustration above shows what it could logically look like. The interior is of course getting a redesign. One that will include Hyundai’s new Pleos infotainment system. Which will make the Genesis G90 sedan interior more generic than before. There will be a giant center screen tablet and a smaller one in front of the driver. Probably integrated into the dashboard. Let’s hope the interior doesn’t become a copy of the ghastly new GV90 interior…

The G90 traces its lineage back to the Hyundai Equus, a car that often feels forgotten but deserves more credit than it gets. Hyundai later sold the second-generation model in the U.S. as the Hyundai Genesis. The third generation finally emerged as the Genesis G90 under the newly established luxury brand, marking a clean and necessary break from Hyundai’s mainstream identity. The current G90 arrived for the 2023 model year, yet it somehow feels older than that, perhaps because its design favors restraint and maturity over flash or trend-chasing. I have to say, I cant rememebr seeing even one driving around.

Today, the G90 has grown into a genuinely impressive full-size luxury sedan. One that can credibly compete with the best in the segment. Although that segemtn is shrinking and the Lexus LS is gone. In many respects, the G90 feels like the spiritual successor to what the LS once represented: quiet excellence, comfort prioritized over athleticism, and a strong emphasis on craftsmanship and serenity.

Whether the updated model reaches the U.S. remains uncertain, especially given that just 1,687 units were sold here last year. While that figure represents the strongest year for this generation, it is still vanishingly small, even by large luxury sedan standards.
