New Honda EVs

Last Updated:

The all-new Honda Ye S7 EV is the first of 3 new Honda EVs for the Chinese market. Even though these photos of the black car don’t look that great, the concepts Honda showed just a few months ago look really promising.

These new models will be based on a new Honda EV platform for the Chinese market. After this Ye S7, there will be a Ye P7 and Ye GT sedan. The whole new “Ye Series” will eventually include a total of 6 models.

The new S7 is 5 inches shorter than the Honda Prologue, or about the same size as a Honda CR-V. This is a dual-motor EV with up to 469HP, which is much more than the Prologue. That much power in a CR-V-sized Honda is actually pretty crazy.

As you can see from these photos of the Ye S7 prototype from last April, the production version is basically exactly the same as the concept and looks much better in this color. I mean this looks 10 times better than our current Honda CR-V in my humble and highly uninformed opinion.

However, I really don’t think Honda is ready to replace the super popular CR-V with an EV in the near future. Let’s hope that at least this could show a nice and clean new design direction for future Hondas in the US as well.

I’m not sure what’s going on with this Ye P7. Since it seems to be the exact same car as the Ye S7 with different lights. The only real difference seems to be that the P7 will not be available with as much power as the S7. I guess they needed a totally separate model for some reason…

The interior of both S7 and P7 is one of the best I’ve seen in any Honda models in many years. Something like this is desperately needed in Hondas available over here.

The upcoming GT model will be a fantastic-looking hatchback sedan.

Again, I haven’t seen a design that clean and modern from Honda in years. Just compare this to our Civic or Accord. I know the sedan market is far from thriving in the US these days, but Hyundai does offer both the Sonata and Ioniq 6. Which appeals to different buyers. While the Ioniq 6 is doing quite well with a 41% increase in sales last April Vs. April 2023, the Sonata is expected to be canceled after the current generation.

I think something fantastic like this new Honda EV sedan would be a great model to help the transition from Civic and Accord to EVs.

Or at least, have this design influence the next Civic.

  1. “Ye” gods! These vehicles are both boring and shockingly ugly at once. The likes of BYD and Geely will make sure these stay on the dealer lots of China.

  2. Individually these look nice although have a very definite Chinese market look, issue I have is most don’t carry any Honda design DNA I can notice of. They could have easily been any Chinese brand, the top one in black and then in orange could have been a Cadillac or Chevy even. They are still struggling to find a unified design that stands out.

  3. The Ye P7 will be built by Guangzhou Automobile Group and the Ye S7 will be built by Dongfeng Motor in China. CATL will supply batteries for these models in China. In other words, these EVs which are on the EV platform called the Architecture W are 100% Chinese. This is why we won’t get them here in the US.

  4. Kind of ironic that fir years Hyundai borrowed design ideas from Honda and now Honda returns the favor by borrowing ideas for their front-end from Kia.

  5. Oh please Honda, just no. You’re already behind the 8 ball. Don’t bring either one of those to the US market. You’re better than that. I hope you are anyway. Lol
