Big Cadillacs video.

Last Updated:

Join me in imagining what a few future “Big Cadillacs” could look like. By “big” I mean big sedans and coupes. Like Cadillacs used to be years ago. The Deville, the Eldorado. Not anything like the Escalade, which somehow, now represents the modern top-of-the-line Cadillac.

These huge sedans and coupes were low yet inefficient. GM’s Ultium platform would take care of the “inefficient” problem. And these would be faster and quieter than ever.

I think there is a market for a new large Cadillac. If not in the US, maybe in China, where sedans are still very popular. it seems that a Cadillac brand without a large luxury sedan is like Disney Studios without animation. Or VW without a Beetle. Just sad and out of touch with the brand’s history. (at least Disney is still producing cartoons).

Mercedes, BMW, and Audi didn’t abandon the luxury sedan market. They don’t sell a ton of them but it would really be unthinkable to imagine Mercedes without an S-Class. Cadillac is indeed working on 2 future sedans based on the Ultium platform. Let’s hope they do end up for sale over here. And that they look fantastic. GM has amazing designers, always had.

They can really do it if they want to.

Cadillac, as well as Lincoln, have completely abandoned the large luxury sedan segment. Their last offering was the excellent Cadillac CT6. (As well as the XT6). They went from 2 large sedans to none. The CT6 was obviously a pretty conservative design, that actually got improved a lot a few years after introduction. However, by that time it was just too late. As many lament the cancelation of the big sedan, very few bought one. Sales numbers went from over 10,500 in 2017 to 3117 in just 3 years.

If people really want these big Cadillacs back, they need to actually buy them…
