Tesla Cyber Cab

Last Updated:

Elon Musk is unveiling the new Tesla CyberCab tonight.

And here are the first pictures from the event taking place at the Warner Brothers studios in Burbank.

It does look a bit like a cross between a Model 3 and a Cybertruck, as many predicted earlier. It seats only 2 and has no steering wheel or pedals. It is basically a hatchback car with a huge trunk but it seats only 2 people. For some odd reason.

Elon claims the new Tesla CyberCab will cost under $30,000. But he also claimed the Cybertruck would start at under $40,000 years ago. Musk also mentioned that people who are currently Uber drivers could maybe buy 10 or 20 of these and manage “a whole flock of cars”. This is of course another disconnected billionaire delusion to even think an Uber driver makes enough to buy 10 or 20 of these…

“You’ll be the shepherd of your flock of cars”… And of course, more BS timeline. Like they expect to have full autonomy tech by next year and start production of the CyberCab in 2026.

Musk also claims the new car has inductive charging and no plug. This means it would require some major new hardware in your driveway to change it. No expectation is given here except “It’s kind of how it should be”.

The main problem is the fact that Elon Musk is a liar, and has been for years. Companies like Waymo seem to be far ahead of Tesla, and the car he is showing today is just not ready for prime time. It all seems like a show for scared investors.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t see the market for a self-driving 2-seater being that huge around the world. I do think the car looks pretty cool. And it could be a fun 2-seater “regular” car. And maybe gives us an idea of what the planned $25,000 Tesla might have been.

Musk was a full hour late to the event. After a few minutes, he switched from the car to the stuff he is currently interested in (it’s not cars anymore), as a bunch of humanoid robots entered the stage. “You can have your own RD2D2/C3PO”. For only $20,000/$30,000. Less than a car. It’s my prediction, long term”

This is basically a lied-filled event with crazy unrealistic numbers thrown around. While other companies and charging ahead.

I can’t help but compare this to a P.T. Barnum show.

He is no Steve Jobs…

  1. Vince! MAD RESPECT that you don’t buy up his B.S as soooo many do! Couldn’t agree more!

  2. Steve Jobs knew nothing about computers plus he didn’t have any degree in engineering.
At best Jobs was a very good presenter or salesman. Musk on the other hand has an advanced degree which enabled him to make billions by running several companies at once. He may over promised several times with rollouts but at least he accomplished was he set out to do. Most people only say negative things about him because he broke away from a certain political ideology which is sad.

  3. Hilarious! I cringe at the thought but he will somehow make coupes popular again with what ever the final version of this will be.

  4. Well said, Vince. However this vehicle makes no sense. A robotaxi would be great for seniors who can no longer drive get out and about – if they could even get in and out of this stupid design. Or I could have used it to get back and for to work after breaking my leg once – if I could get in and out of this damn contraption. Musky had to show something about anything automotive that gives some desperate Elon-Boys a tiny Tesla fix – I doubt that this will ever see the light of day on the production floor.

  5. There is absolutely no way I would trust a Tesla, with no steering wheel, pedals or driver, to take me anywhere. I can’t wait to see what the insurance will cost will be on one of these $45K rolling death traps.

  6. Every sale going to Tesla is not going to MB, BMW, Caddy or Lexus. PT Barnum wishes he was so successful.

  7. Pretty lame event with poor timing, the only reason I can think why they did it now was to boost their stock price and act like they are making progress with FSD, but they are not 2 years away of getting FSD complete so this whole show is pointless. Investors don’t seem to be bought in either, stock is down 12% already this morning. As opposed to building a few concept cars for this event why not complete the refresh on the Model Y and then tack on your robo taxi at the end of that launch. Why display robots at the event but not talk any facts about them. It’s because they just want to fool investors into thinking they are making real progress….

  8. I agree with others that the form of this vehicle makes no sense as a taxi. With a steering wheel, foot pedals, and rear window, it could be an intriguing 21st century CRX. A taxi needs to seat more people and have a more upright posture to accommodate people who can’t dance the limbo at parties.

  9. That crackhead Musk. This is all publicity for stock prices at a time when big institutional investors are questioning his leadership ability to sustain the business. Regardless, the grift continues.
