Cadillac CT5 review video.
Last Updated:
Here is a short but sweet video about the Cadillac CT5 I was fortunate to drive for a few days.
The Cadillac CT5 came out exactly 5 years ago, and for the new year, it was given a new face and a slightly revised interior. Of course, the new 33-inch curved screen is spectacular and just what was needed to update that old interior. However, the rest is pretty much the same as the one I test-drove 4 years ago.
Otherwise, this is pretty much the same car it has been for 5 years. Nothing futuristic or ahead of anyone else.
However, the CT5 has been a decent seller for Cadillac. It is actually more popular now than when it came out with over 18,500 of them sold last year in the US, And over 65,000 in China. While these aren’t super high numbers, they’re around 3 times better than the Audi A6. The CT5 also easily beats the Genesis with only 5,340 units sold.
I guess that means we will eventually see a brand-new generation in a couple of years or sooner. Cadillac is working on 2 new sedans based on the Ultium platform and the smaller model is rumored to replace both the current CT4 and CT5 models.
As it is, the CT5 is improved and a very nice driving car. It’s just not what most people would expect from a Cadillac sedan. It’s just too sporty for that. I think a sporty character would be OK in the “Sports” version, and that’s it. “Regular” Cadillac models should be a bit smoother. (Where is the adaptive suspension???). I cannot think of a potential BMW buyer picking a CT5 anyway and I don’t see why GM is still using the brand to chase after BMW. It seems Ultium base cars are changing that since the Lyriq has been described as a super smooth and comfortable car.
As it stands now, the CT5 is a still very solid and refined sedan.
