Hyundai Ioniq 9.

When you compare these latest spy shots of the new Hyundai Ioniq 9 to the Concept Seven from a couple of years ago, you can tell there are quite a few important differences, even though they still look very similar. The most obvious to me is the C-pillar. Whereas the production version seems to have a really thick chrome trim and a much larger window. A larger window is good, but I’m not sure about the super thick chrome bit…
The wheel arches are now circular, and very different from the concept. I’m not sure why. But it makes the whole thing look much more generic now.
The rear lights don’t appear to go all around the rear hatch anymore. At least not at the bottom of the hatch. And of course, the rear hatch isn’t all glass like it was in the concept. Although Hyundai might have decided to paint the lower part of the hatch black to try to match the dark glass from the hatch. Which could almost work…
So far, the new Hyundai Ioniq 9 is shaping up to be the Kia EV9‘s good-looking cousin, which would be nice. As the Tonka Toy look of the big Kia EV isn’t to everyone… (At least not me…)
“The most obvious to me is the C-pillar.” That’s the D-pillar.
Seems like they’ve diluted all the most distinctive styling features. Pity.
