2025/26 Hyundai Nexo.

I’m not exactly sure why, but Hyundai is still spending a lot of money on a second-generation Nexo hydrogen-powered crossover.
The current model came out in 2018, so yes, in a way it’s time for a new one. However, the Hyundai Nexo is an extremely limited model. Especially in the US where, just like the Toyota Mirai, it is only available in California. However, the Mirai is much more popular in the US with 2,737 of them sold last year.
The current Nexo is far more popular in Korea, where the Hydrogen infrastructure is probably much better than in the US. This is reflected in the Nexo’s sales numbers with over 10,160 units sold last year in its home market. While only 241 of them were sold in the US last year. Down from a whopping 408 units in 2022.
That US infrastructure is also very problematic with Toyota Mirai owners currently seeing Toyota for the lack of Hydrogen stations properly maintained.
I guess this is more of a research vehicle than anything else for Hyundai, and 10,000 sold in Korea alone isn’t that bad…
Maybe for the same reason Toyota and Honda have continued to research, design and build hydrogen powered vehicles… the entire world isn’t the USA. Its just a matter of time.
Usually one gets paid to participate in a research study, lol!
