New VW EV.
Last Updated:
VW just officially unveiled their new EV for the Chinese market, the ID.Unyx.
The ID.Unyx is a VW version of the new Cupra Tavascan sold in Europe. VW has decided the Tavascan would make a great VW in China and here it is. With redesigned front and rear ends as well as a new, less psychedelic interior.
It is a nice-looking car, but the interior, otherwise quite stylish, is still saddled with the stupid-looking giant tablet screen that looks like a cheap after-market part. Which is really too bad in this otherwise very modern interior. However, The worst part might be all that ghastly gold trim everywhere.
The new ID.Unyx is part of a new VW strategy called “in China, for China”. Unyx is now apparently a VW sub-brand for the Chinese market with 4 more new models coming out by 2026. The Unyx brand will include both SUVs and sedans. In general, VW plans to introduce 34 new models in China by 2030. We’ll see about that…
or now, the new ID.Unyx is RWD only and a dual-motor version is coming later. All are probably very similar to the ID.4 and ID.5.
Should this come over here as well?
My first thought upon seeing this was: Finally!
Meaning that VW finally found some style. I hope that they do bring this new styling into the VW range in America. I still blanche at the thought of the generic blobbiness of our Chattanooga made Passat; especially the ones in white. Give us some style VW!
Much better looking than that ID mess VW is hocking here. The interior is really just a better set of gauges, some physical climate controls and a smaller tablet away from being a really sharp offering for the US.
