Cadillac Eldorado convertible.

Last Updated:

The illustration above shows what a possible rebirth of the Cadillac Eldorado could look like as a convertible. Something Cadillac hasn’t produced since 1976.

The first Eldorado was introduced as a limited edition convertible in 1953. And became a high-end trim or another Cadillac model starting in 1954.

That last 1976 model was part of the 9th generation, produced from 1971 to 1978. GM advertised the 1976 Convertible as “the last American convertible”, which of course turned out to be wrong.

The next generation ended up offering a convertible version starting in 1984. Although these were actually built by independent coachbuilders and not GM directly. And of course, later came the Cadillac Allante…

As we mentioned before, Cadillac is indeed working on a couple of new sedans based on the Ultium platform. There is no info available yet on these new models, except they will offer a fastback design. Let’s hope GM tries to include a few retro design cues into these new models. At least on the larger sedan. It wouldn’t seem to be that hard to come up with a really nice coupe or convertible based on the longer sedan platform.

Back in the real world, the only way you will ever be able to drive a big Eldorado convertible is to get a used one. From the 1970’s.

Since GM doesn’t seem to have anything comparable in their future plans…

  1. Great design ! Cadillac needs a Convertible & a class one like this .
    Mercedes & BMW has them!
Cadillac had an Eldorado Convertible again from 84-86 , and then Alante from 87-93.

  2. I’m not fan of caddy but that one I would consider buying provided it has driven.

  3. Stop teasing us with endless pictures and speculation and just get GM to build the damn thing !!!

  4. Are they going to make it happen or not already, tell them to get with the program.
They got something good here and what, what are they waiting for…

  5. Awesome classic design, this would put Cadillac in front of the game with a full arsenal lineup of great looking vehicles for variety of people. The only vehicle in their lineup that’s not desirable is the Celestiq. It looks like a old Dodge Magnum at 300K. “Excess Denied”

  6. Georgious!!! Cadillac would once again be an international ‘dream car’ give it some power and 1st class finishes-now you’re off to the races. My last Caddy was a 1970 Eldorado,500ci, metallic red-white vinyl top, white leather interior (wish I still had her)

  7. My 1st Cadillac was a 1979 Eldorado Biaritz white on white, straight lace tru-rays, Bumper kit, & the Rolls Royce Grill on the front. This was a sharp machine!

Now this new Eldorado, mannn, is like no other, bar none it’s in a class of its own. Way to go Cadillac you are a True Leader, An American Icon.

  8. Make a that convertible cadillac or please make convertible cadillac again, with big Block motor

  9. Why oh why does Cadillac make so many S U V’S when all the so called trends say it is the way to go. I always enjoyed a sedan I am not a fan of S U V’S I currently own a C T 5 and this will be my last Caddy. It lacks the prestige that the older models had . It may be fine for a younger generation but not for me!
