2025 Hyundai Ioniq 9.
Last Updated:
The new Hyundai Ioniq 9 will be the brand’s first 3-row EV. It is basically a Hyundai version of the Kia EV9, and the design will be based on the Seven Concept we saw in late 2021.
It was supposed to be called the Ioniq 7 until a few months ago when Hyundai decided on “Ioniq 9“. Probably to make sure there would be enough room for more future models between the large 3-row SUV and the Ioniq 5. The spy shot above seems to show the rear of the Ioniq 9 almost totally uncovered. At least, we can see the rear lights.
And they do look pretty similar to the concept. Although the bottom horizontal light bar seems to be missing unless it is still covered up.
And of course, the rather crazy all-glass rear hatch had to go. However, if the lower part of the dash under the window ended up painted black, it could be an effective cheat.
So far, the Kia EV9 has been pretty popular around the world with over 50,000 units sold as of May. That month, Kia sold almost 2200 of them in the US. A 39% increase over the previous month. Which isn’t bad at all for a large EV SUV starting at $55,000.
I think the Ioniq 9 has the potential to be even more popular, with a less polarizing design. I have still not completely gotten used to the Lego/Tonka look of the EV9. I think the Ioniq 9 could be a much more pleasant site in real life.
So far, the Ioniq 5 is about $1000 cheaper than its platform cousin, the Kia EV6. That means the Ioniq 9 could maybe start at under $54,000 or even less, making it quite attractive. Specs will of course be very close to the Kia EV9.
Apparently, the official launch scheduled for this summer was pushed to later in the year.
