2025 BYD Seal.

Last Updated:

BYD unveiled new photos of their improved Seal EV sedan for 2025.

While the exterior seems almost exactly the same as the car released in late 2022, except for new sensors, the interior has been completely redesigned. After just 2 years on the market.

The BYD Seal is considered in Europe by many as the main Tesla Model 3 competitor, where it has been on sale since late last year. While many reviewers still prefer the Model 3, some others actually prefer the BYD Seal. One main issue was the over-designed messy interior. Which has just been fixed. With a new interior that is a vast improvement over the previous one, and will make the Seal an even tougher competitor against Tesla.

That interior is not only new but also looks much more upscale than the Tesla Model 3. Total production in 2023 was over 84,000 units. A big jump from 51,200 the previous year. BYD has a crazy plan to sell up to 300,000 cars a year in Europe. They have been investing in plants in Turkey and Hungary to avoid new European tariffs on Chinese cars. They are also planning to launch up to 6 new cars in the next 2 years.

No matter how optimistic these numbers are, BYD is learning and improving very fast. The Seal already improving that much in less than 2 years after launch. While OTA updates are important, it took Tesla 6 years to improve the Model 3’s interior. And now, its main Chinese completion in Europe is already doing better.

Of course, there is more. BYD recently released the Sea Lion 07, which is a Tesla Model Y competitor. Something that looks like another headache for Tesla.

I wonder if anyone in the US would actually consider or even welcome the 2 new BYD models shown here if they were built in the US. Or even Mexico or Canada where so many US cars are built these days…
