2025 GMC Terrain Vs.Chevrolet Equinox.

Last Updated:

GM released a bit more info about the redesigned GMC Terrain for 2025. And it seems a few journalists got to drive it as well.

For this new generation, the Terrain seems to look almost the same as the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox. Which is totally redesigned as well. Of course, the huge GMC grille still makes the GMC stand out (in a bad way) next to its Chevrolet cousin. Otherwise, both look surprisingly similar. After years of making sure they didn’t…

From the profile view, it seems the decrease under the windows is more pronounced on the GMC, and the C-Pillar is a bit different. Otherwise, it would be hard to tell which one is the GMC. Strange since the body panels are indeed not the same. Why not make them look a bit more different?

It is a different story inside where the two don’t even seem related. Which is good. However, the new Equinox interior is so good I’m not sure the Terrain is worth the extra money over the Chevrolet version. Powertrains are exactly the same for both, with the only engine available being a 1.5 Liter Turbo with 175HP. Which isn’t that great. As usual, the FWD versions are getting a CVT, while the AWD models are getting a new 8-speed automatic. Elevation (base), AT4 and Denali trims are available.

No Hybrid or PHEV is available. At least not yet. GM does offer a

version of the e2025 Equinox in China.

Official pricing will come “at a later date”….

No matter what the price will be, it will be more than the Chevrolet Equinox EV. Which starts at around $36,000 before incentives. Even if you don’t include various local help, a new Equinox could start at around $28,000 after federal incentives. There is even a current $ 239-a-month lease available on the EV.

I wonder if GMC will end up having its version of the Equinox EV. It would be quite nice to see an affordable off-road-looking design based on the Ultium platform.

  1. Missed opportunity by GM NOT to offer a PHEV in the US. Not sure why anyone would want to spend the extra to get the GMC, I never would have thought it but I did meet some people who think GMC is a premium brand and Chevy inferior.. in this case, I prefer the CHEVY design, especially the interior. I dislike the current fashion trend of the split front markers/headlights..

  2. I actually think the Terrain looks good, especially in AT4 trim. Both Chevy & GMC seem to have excelled in interior design. But with that hamster wheel, underpowered, tiny korean made 1.5 turbo, GM can keep them. 175hp dragging around 3800lbs? Two wet timing belts? I doubt if any will make it past 100k miles. All of a sudden the Ford Bronco Sport with it’s 250hp 2.0 Ecoboost, plastic fantastic interior and all, sounds pretty good.
