Future Lucid models.

Last Updated:

We have known for a while that Lucid has been working on a new smaller SUV and a sedan.

These two models are getting ready to compete with the Tesla Model Y and even the Model 3. However, there is a recent rumor about a 3rd model as part of that new smaller midsize series. One that is not a wagon, for some reason. That doesn’t leave many other body styles except for a 2 door coupe or a convertible.

The illustration above shows what a smaller Lucid convertible could look like, and I think it would be a great idea.

Of course, the convertible market is far from thriving these days. But who cares? It would be a great looking car and we do need more of these. (Although they’re probably thinking of a smaller Off-road Jeep competitor…)

Lucid is getting ready to launch the Gravity SUV. I saw it in person last year and it is very, very impressive. Especially at a rumored starting price of $78,000. In real life, it looks more modern and more impressive than most SUVs out there, EV or not. It seems like a Range Rover competition for about $30,000 less. At $78,000 it actually competes with the Mercedes EQE SUV, not the larger EQS. While the Lucid’s size is in between the EQS and EQE.

While AWD will be standard on the Lucid Gravity, the 440-mile range will probably not. The first year of production will also be focused on the “Dream Edition”, which will be the most expensive loaded trim. It will be 2026 before we get to see more affordable versions.

The Gravilty will also be competing against the aging Tesla Model X. And I predict the Lucid will just destroy the old Model X in the marketplace.

In general, with smaller and more affordable models coming up, Lucid is trying very hard to compete with Tesla as a full brand. The timing is perfect with Elon Musk currently more interested in Rockets, Robots, AI, and politics than actually running a car company these days.

It will be very interesting to see both Lucid and Rivian develop into full-range manufacturers within the next few years. All while Tesla might be having a tougher time.
