Lincoln Mark X Convertible.

Last Updated:

Back in 2004, Lincoln showed us a stunning 2 seater convertible concept called the Mark X. It was obviously based on the recently introduced 2002 retro Ford Thunderbird. But the more luxurious Lincoln version took the retro theme even further and really came out with what would have been a fantastic new Mark convertible. Like so many past great Lincoln concepts, it never happened…

The illustration above shows what, over 20 years later, a new Mark X convertible could look like.

Of course, the illustration above has many retro cues, while still looking more modern than anything Lincoln offers today. It would also be very refreshing to see a new Lincoln that isn’t an SUV. Today’s lineup only offers boxy SUVs thal all look very similar.

They does offer the Zephyr sedan in China. It came out in 2022 and is powered by the usual 2.0 Liter Turbo from Ford.

A few years ago, there were serious talks about Lincoln getting a version of the large Ford EV SUV that was planned for next year. And yes, it would have been yet another SUV.

The Ford version has been pushed back to 2026, or even later, and the same thing probably happened to the Lincoln version. The new large EV will probably replace the Aviator in the lineup.

Buick just showed their concept for a future EV sedan for the Chinese market. Cadillac is working on 2 EV sedans. And so are many others. Lincoln will have to do the same if they want to be successful in China.

These sedans could also spin off coupe or even convertible models. Although that might only happen in another dimension.

And good old Cadillac is coming up with not only one but 2 all-new EV sedans “soon”. Which gives hope to those who lament the SUV invasion.

For now, we’ll just have to guess what that new Lincoln convertible could be…

  1. Since Cadillac has been developing these sedans, it has never launched any; the brand has only launched SUVs.🤣🤣😕
