2026 Chevrolet Bolt.

A new generation Chevrolet Bolt is scheduled to be introduced soon, with production starting before the end of this year as a 2026 model. Which doesn’t leave much time for prototypes to be caught testing the new car.

It’s been done before, with the current all-new Toyota Prius. When the 1st spy shots we saw were published, just a couple of weeks before the real thing was introduced. Toyota was able to keep that new design a secret until the end.

Not the case with the new Chevrolet Bolt. As you can see from the spy shot above, this “new/next-generation” Bolt will use the same design as the previous model. Visually, it will be a strange mid-cycle refresh of a product introduced in 2021 and canceled in 2023. It will be a 5-year-old design with the usual redesigned front and rear ends. probably trying hard to make it look more like the Equinox EV.

Of course, it will use new batteries with a range of over 300 miles, and the charging system will be updated to be much faster. And yet. This i such a lazy move from GM. I mean,n even the wheels are the same (at least on the prototypes).

It seems the “new” Bolt is a refreshed version of the longer Chevrolet Bolt EUV and is probably using the same platform and not the more advanced and newer Ultium platform. Unless they found a way to fit the old design on the new platform.

GM estimates the new Bolt will finally make a profit. Rumored to be around $6000 per car. I guess not having a new design did save a bunch of money.

I am not really sure Bolt fans will be impressed with the rebirth of a 5-year-old car. Even if it comes with newer tech.

What a shame…

  1. Reusing the same design as the 2022-23 would be disappointing. You can bet that Chevy downgrades the quality of the interior. The 2022 had an oddly nice interior since it was sold as a Buick in China. Considering the Equinox EV is mostly hard plastics on the inside you can bet that the “new” Bolt will have a similarly cheap interior as the Chevy Trax.

  2. So GM pulled a Concorde/Taurus situation. They rebranded the Bolt EUV as simply the Bolt.

  3. I own a ‘22 EUV, and I’m looking to replace our ‘14 Spark EV. As great as these vehicles have been to me and the wife, we’ll gladly spend the money on a ‘26.

People don’t buy these out of passion, but for purpose. Like you buy a microwave. Passionate driving is either my ‘72 Monte or ‘69 Ghia. Older passion anyway.

  4. I had a Bolt EUV and I miss its SuperCruise more than anything else. What a dream Super Cruise is! Seriously made driving to work so much better.

I have had 3 Toyota trucks, 2 Lexus cars, 3 Lexus SUVs and 1 Chevrolet Bolt as the cars I’ve owned in the past ten years. The Chevrolet Bolt was the one that had the least amount of quality defects from new and was put together the best. Did it degrade over time? Yes. Initial quality surpassed even the Lexus models I have owned, though.

Maybe now they can invest in tail lamps that actually illuminate instead of the ugly bumper lights.

Not going to lie… This is kind of a disappointment.
