Next-generation Lincoln Town Car.

The last generation Lincoln Town Car ended production in 2011. Could a new one bring back the classic big American luxury sedan?

Probably not. Since sales of that last generation had come down to under 9500 in its last full year. Lincoln did bring back the Continental sedan for a few years in 2017. It wasn’t the success they had hoped for. Production stopped just 3 years later. And of course, blaming it on “Americans don’t want sedans anymore”.

What Americans didn’t want was a Lincoln Continental based on the Ford Mondeo. Sure, it was longer, but it just didn’t look the part. And it wasn’t a replacement for the Town Car either. It was also pretty expensive and had tons of super cheap-looking plastic chrome trim inside.

What would work better is a larger RWD sedan like the last Town Car. Of course, that Panther platform is long gone, and adapting the current Mustang platform would probably be very costly.

This might sound blasphemous to the old guard, but a large EV platform would be the only way to revive the Town Car. It would instantly become quieter and more powerful than it has ever been. Without even trying hard.

There is currently zero platform Ford/Lincoln could use for a large luxury sedan. However, the new “Lowcost” EV platform introduced a few weeks ago could actually be used for at least 8 brand-new models. Of course, Pickups and SUVs will be first. And why not something for Lincoln?

Cadillac is working on 2 new EV sedans. We are supposed to see these “soon” as they say. Let’s hope it will push Ford to compete by adding a new sedan to their SUV-only lineup.

As I recently found out, the Town Car still has tons of fans. Of all ages, it seems. It was a super reliable car and many of them can be bought for around $10,000 or so. Making it a great deal for those looking for a big luxury car that isn’t too old. And then, you start looking at various generations of the Lexus LS (why not). These are also not very expensive and reliable. And probably more sophisticated than the Town car.

Later, you realize you don’t really want to spend $10,000 on a car you don’t need at all. And that you just spent way too much time watching Lincoln TownCar/Lexus LS videos and maybe it’s just time to go to bed…

  1. I’m on my tenth Lincoln, would love to make it eleven. I still have a Town Car I bought new. If it comes out and isn’t unrealistically expensive, I’ll commit right now. No interest in EVs or SUVs.

  2. I love it. Agree it should have a 5.0 V-8, 4×4. Make it look and feel like an affordable R R.

  3. I’d like to see a coupe with a 5.0 V8 & AWD with a burl wood & plush leather interior & wide panel moonroof.
It would give Bentley a run

  4. They can do better than that. The back is ugly. They need to make one that looks like the 66 continental conv. All these cars are looking the same
. Be different. Thats what sales

  5. Incredibly impressive style and elegance. Captures the mid-1960’s classic aesthetic.

  6. What cheap plastic design is this. When you think lincoln you have real chrome not some cheap plastic bumpers that you have to duct tape once you tap into someone. And also a hood emblem that could stab someone like a 61.Sorry the design sucks no imagination just a computer aided design.Learn how to draw with a pencil not a computer.

  7. I have realized after 64 years kn th I s planet that a Ford person is a Ford person and a Chevy person is a Chevy person most of the time. But the new design of the Lincoln is a great design and I think most none Ford owners will take a closer look at the now Lincoln
Because not everyone want a mustang or LTD.
I personally have owned Chevy impala for over 15 years but this Lincoln just from the outside pictures I’ve seen has me very interested in seeing the rest of the car. I think with the new Lincoln design Ford is trying to gain popularity with none Ford buyer and to me it looks like they are starting to turn heads for the good. I’m not looking for a car that looks like something I had once before I’m looking for something new safer modern and new and ideas a leader that other have to catch up to. Don’t compare it to any other car. Look at it as if you were buying your first luxury car.

  8. 34th year a chauffeur driving The Town Cars. Nothing compares to the ride. 175k on my 09, 275k on my sons 2011. Built to last. With AC off in the winter 25mpg, around town 30ish on hwy. 17+ with the AC. I love em , always will.

  9. I will never buy Lincoln anymore , imagine that the dealer ship told that they cant repair my aviator plug in hybrid 2023 (?engine and transmission gone) coz it is not worrh it they said ,

  10. I drove Lincoln Town Cars from 1984 until last year when there wasn’t one. We still have a 2007 that my husband won’t give up. Last year we got a Nautalis but the drive can’t compare with the Town Car.

  11. If the 2017 Continental would have had rear-hinged (suicide) rear doors, I think it would have been a real hit. This is an extremely elegant looking car, squared-off like a Chrysler 300. Build it like a 61-69 Continental!

  12. Beautiful car!! Leave it to Ford to create the most beautiful car on American highways!! LOVE THIS CAR. My checkbook is drooling!

  13. I love Lincoln Continental Town Car and the Lincoln Continental Mark IV V Vi &8 very much appreciated and very much fine cars to drive. We had the Lincoln Continental Mark IV 1974 Black on Black Leather. Ford & Lincoln Continental need a come back. There’s still a huge audience market for fancy Luxury Cars Sedan’s & Cadillac is still hanging tough making fancy Luxury Cars Sedan’s. Lincoln Continental please produce 1

  15. We really need these types of designs back and not at $50k plus. Base at $35k and loaded at $50k or $55k.

  16. It does look Jag-ish but it’s a very attractive rendering. I would own it . I love the tailight styling. I would prefer the rear window be flat like the 90-97 TC but that is personal preference. Thanks for posting!

  17. Please, Ford get rid of Jim Farley! I’m driving a Subaru because Jim’s more interested in pickup trucks and SUBS. Wrote Ford years ago and told them they’ll never outsell Cattle ac because they build vehicles to outlive God, and Government Motors owners of Cattle ac’s have to trade their units in to get rid of squeaks and rattles!

  18. This is an incredible design and great look into what could be in the near future. Forget the haters. 95 Lincoln town car was my first car gifted to me by one of my mentors. Black on black, the boat goat. Maaaaan I’d buy another Lincoln if they had one just like this. Very cool to see what ideas you’ve come up with to help revisit and respark the conversation of bringing it back. Bless up and thank you for sharing. Please share more pics.
