2028 Lincoln Town Car.

Last Updated:

The last generation Lincoln Town Car ended production in 2011, and it doesn’t look like Ford is working on a next generation.. Could a new one bring back the classic big American luxury sedan?

Probably not. Since sales of that last generation had come down to under 9500 in its last full year. Lincoln did bring back the Continental sedan for a few years in 2017. It wasn’t the success they had hoped for. Production stopped just 3 years later. And of course, blaming it on “Americans don’t want sedans anymore”.

What Americans didn’t want was a Lincoln Continental based on the Ford Mondeo. Sure, it was longer, but it just didn’t look the part. And it wasn’t a replacement for the Town Car either. It was also pretty expensive and had tons of super cheap-looking plastic chrome trim inside.

What would work better is a larger RWD sedan like the last Town Car. Of course, that Panther platform is long gone, and adapting the current Mustang platform would probably be very costly.

This might sound blasphemous to the old guard, but the new “Lowcost” EV platform Ford introduced a few weeks ago would work. A new Town Car would instantly become quieter and more powerful than it has ever been. Without even trying hard. And let’s face it, it doesn’t look like Ford is working on any other future platform than this onward.

That new platform is rumored to be used for at least 8 brand-new models. Of course, Pickups and SUVs will be first. And why not something for Lincoln?

Cadillac is working on 2 new EV sedans. We are supposed to see these “soon,” as they say. Let’s hope it will push Ford to compete by adding a new sedan to their SUV-only lineup.

As I recently found out, the Town Car still has tons of fans. Of all ages, it seems. It was a super reliable car, and many of them can be bought for around $10,000 or so. Making it a great deal for those looking for a big luxury car that isn’t too old. And then, you start looking at various generations of the Lexus LS (why not). These are also not very expensive and reliable. And probably more sophisticated than the Town Car.

Later, you realize you don’t really want to spend $10,000 on a car you don’t need at all. And that you just spent way too much time watching Lincoln TownCar/Lexus LS videos, and maybe it’s just time to go to bed…

  1. I like the way that the two tone effect is executed in this illustration. The separation between the colors occurs at the beltline and is punctuated by what looks like a strip of metallic material. It’s definitely old school, but it looks amazing and much better than the cheap, poorly executed fake floating roof designs on current production vehicles. Well done! Now, if only someone would manufacture something that looks as cool as the sedan in the illustration!

  2. Ford Lincoln fu**in wake up the most beautiful limousines were Lincoln Town cars PERIOD!!!! These ugly SUVs you see everywhere you breath is sickening. Stupid SUV Cadillacs trying to look like a classy limousine including any super large size SUV. I want to vomit SUVs they all look the same. Take off their badges or switch them and you won’t know what maker your driving damnit. Lincoln Wake up and make a full size sedan like 2007 only with the future looks you see on maybe one or two of these overly swamped shit SUVs. I used limousines continually and when I saw a stretched Lincoln Town car pull up with coach lights tinted windows and seeing 3 doors on each side and newly waxed shining. Nothing but class and admiration would come to sight. Not only the ride inside but the beautiful long car pull up you couldn’t wait to get in it and do whatever you wanted???? Now the shits SUVs out there only knowing their a limousine is by the license plate nothing else. Lincoln bring back the class of a floating ride of a town car which rode better than a rolls Royce. Wake up !!!!!!!!!
