2026 Jeep Recon already killed by Stellantis.

I first saw pictures of the new Jeep Recon EV over 2 years ago and thought it looked great. After many delays, the new Jeep EV is finally out. And yes, it still looks great, even inside. This is the perfect design for a much more modern and refined version of the Wrangler.

Here are some of the specs:

“Built for adventure, the all-new 2026 Jeep® Recon is the only fully electric Trail Rated SUV, delivering rugged capability in a fully electrified form

Electrified and trail-ready, the Jeep Recon delivers 650 horsepower, 620 lb.-ft. of instant torque and an estimated all-electric range of up to 250 miles, plus 0-60 mph acceleration in as low as 3.6 seconds

Jeep brand-exclusive Selec-Terrain traction management system features five distinct drive modes for all weather and road conditions

Jeep Recon blends heritage-inspired design with modern electric innovation that inspires loyal Jeep enthusiasts and new explorers alike

No tools, no hassle, just pure open-air freedom in a matter of minutes; Jeep Recon is the only fully electric SUV designed with removable doors, swing gate glass and rear quarter glass

Roomy, rugged and ready for anything, the Jeep Recon’s interior features handcrafted materials, clever storage and customizable touches that fit right into the Jeep lifestyle, including more than 170 standard safety and security features

With a starting MSRP of $65,000, the 2026 Jeep Recon will begin production early next year.”

Yes, the 250-mile range is not great. As it is around average these days. Especially for a vehicle born for road trips. But what will kill the Recon is its price.

At $65,000, the base model is way overpriced. You would think Stellantis learned its lesson with the Dodge Charger EV, but no. They seem to have learned nothing. It seems the Recon was just too far along to cancel, but at the same time, they don’t really want to deal with it. At this crazy price, there will be very few takers indeed. Which is truly a shame.

$65,000 is the same price as the Jeep Wagoneer S. Another overpriced model from Stellantis. And guess what, just about 10,000 sold so far. When your base Grand Cherokee starts at under $37,000, your new EV of about the same size should be priced at $30,000 more. And the Jeep Wangler is even cheaper to start. Basically, the Recon is twice as much. Of course, I realize the Recon is a more upscale car than a base Wrangler. A more comparable Rubicon X starts at $62,000.

Still, Jeep needs to offer a more basic version of the Recon for around $50,000 at the most. If they want to sell any, that is. How many potential buyers really want 650HP in an off-road Jeep? This is just insanity.

And plain sad…

  1. Steallantis is at it again. All that talk about learning their lesson with Jeep pricing was just that, talk. These things aren’t gonna sell well starting at $65 especially now that there are no longer any subsidies. What the hell are they thinking???

  3. This is a big mistake.
Just look at the popularity of the new LR Defender to see people want a rugged car on the outside with a car like interior.
