2026 Kia K4 SportsWagon.

That is one good-looking wagon from Kia. The new K4 SportsWagon looks modern and a bit better than the sedan it is based on. (In my totally uninformed and amateurish opinion).

As you can see from the images above, it is a straight wagon version of the sedan. While the Kia K4 hatchback is much shorter. That means this is probably a very roomy vehicle. However, it seems that it looks larger than it actually is since it is half an inch shorter than the wagon. Both are about the size of a Honda Civic sedan.

The compact wagon market has totally disappeared in the US. I think the last offer was the Jetta wagon. Years ago, it seemed everyone was offering them. It is still the case to day since this new K4 wagon will not be sold in the US. Even if it is built in Mexico. We are getting the sedan and hatchback, and Kia thinks that’s just enough for us gringos.

If you want something roomier, get a more expensive Tucson.

Powertrain menu is different than what we get over here in the K4. For the overseas market, it starts with a 1.0 Liter engine with 115PS and a 6 speed manula. That’s right, a manual. Of course, Kia’s 1.6 Liter Turbo is available as an option, with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic.

I guess the anti-wagon stigma is still strong among manufacturers selling cars in the US. However, all it takes is one successful one for all others to jump in.

I guess it won’t be Kia…

  1. I’m convinced that Americans don’t like wagons simply because they have no ability to do anything but parrot the same old tag line “American’s don’t like wagons”. Yet most are driving exactly that – SUV’s (tall wagons). Wake up, stoopids. Actual wagons drive and ride better, and get better fuel economy.

  2. Looks much better than the sedan and hatchback versions. The awkward and ungainly proportions of the other two derivatives (especially the sedan) seem to disappear on the nice looking wagon version. I wish the metallic garnish under the side windows would go all the way around the windows instead of abruptly stopping halfway up the D-pillar. It would be a nice addition to the U.S. lineup, but Kia won’t have the guts to do it.

  3. Maybe put the roofline a little higher, but still being a wagon. Bcuz even the Europeans are SUV crazy it seems. Then it could be a world car, able to be intro’d both here and abroad.

  4. The Wagon looks like the Sportage’s greenhouse. So i guess a wagon is a crossover that sits like a sedan.
