2028 Acura RDX teaser.

Acura has just released a teaser image of the next-generation Acura RDX SUV. And it already looks more modern and much more dynamic than the current version. With much nicer proportions as well.

Which is no surprise since the current version is now 7 years old.

The big news is that a new “Two-motor Hybrid system” is finally coming to the RDX. Which will no doubt increase gas mileage and even power. Acura is not mentioning a regular non-hybrid version yet. That means it could be the only available powertrain for the next generation, which is fine by me. I still really like the current model, and the Honda 2.0 Liter is as smooth and refined as ever. But adding some electrification could help a lot. However, it might be paired with a less refined 1.5 Liter engine, which would be a shame.

Acura also mentioned that production of the current generation will stop later this year (due to a part availability issue). However, the new generation is said to come “in the next couple of years,“ which is pretty vague and could mean that Acura dealers won’t have any RDX for sale for up to 2 years.

While the ADX is quite a disappointment, I really have high hopes for a new RDX. And also the all-new RSX EV.

  1. The part availability is likely the discontinuation of the 2.0turbo engine. After killing off the TLX, the RDX is the only vehicle to still use the 2.0L turbo. All hybrids use the Atkinson cycle engine, and since they mentioned a two-motor hybrid instead of a 3 motor hybrid (similar to the Acura Sport Hybrid system that was in the RLX, MDX, and NSX), I’m going to just say it’ll be similar to the current CRV. The issues there will be how much power it will have – likely a CVT and not as much power as the current 272 hp. The Accord/CRV have the most powerful 2MH Honda system at 204hp combined. So think closer to that number. Honda really should put the hybrid in the HRV in the meantime.

  2. The current RDX is unattractive and simply an average SUV. And the 23 MPG a shame for such a small engine.
