2028 Camaro: A new V8 Sedan in a $4 a gallon world.

The Chevrolet Camaro ended production over a year ago, marking the close of an era. The official word from GM was: “Camaro is a passion product. It has developed a fan base across the world and has brought people into Chevrolet dealerships for generations.” And: “While we are not announcing an immediate successor today, rest assured, this is not the end of Camaro’s story.” That statement alone sparked a wave of speculation across the automotive world. Enthusiasts and analysts alike began imagining what form a revival could take, everything from a sleek 4-door sport sedan to, somewhat controversially, a crossover or SUV. Of course, an SUV version would likely stir debate among purists. There were even talks about a new Camaro EV based on the Ultium platform for a while.
We finally have more info about the 7th generation…
The next Camaro will be related to the 2nd generation Cadillac CT5, as well as the upcoming new Buick RWD sedan for North America. Production is scheduled to start at the end of 2027, as a 2028 model. Just a few months ago, there were rumors about a new Chevrolet sedan joining the next CT5 and a new Buick sedan. Now we know that the new Chevrolet sedan won’t be a new Malibu or a new Impala. It will be a Camaro. These cars are also rumored to offer a V8 as an option. And that’s the main point of these 3 new sedans. A V8. Which, these days, seems to be the worst timing ever. No matter what, gas prices will stay high for quite a while. And go be even higher soon. It seems a new thirsty V8 sedan will appeal to very few in the current market. And GM is preparing not just one, but three…
Mark Reuss did mention the possibility of an EV a while ago. At that time, he also hinted at a model priced similarly to the Chevrolet Equinox EV. It would also be a car that focuses on “fun rather than pure horsepower”.
I really hope these new sedans do look good. And not refreshed and rebadged versions of the current Cadillac CT5.
Also, let’s hope for GM’s sake that another, more efficient powertrain will be available as well. The return of the big GM V8 sedan will make front page news and have car nerds drooling. But very few might actually buy one…
