The Return of the Lincoln Town Car Could Change Everything.

As mentioned earlier, it seems sedans are on the verge of making a come bak. Some never left and still sell very well, like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Others, like the Lincoln Town Car, were killed years ago. The last Town Car was produced in 2011.
Sales of that last generation had come down to under 9500 in its last full year. Lincoln did bring back the Continental sedan for a few years in 2017. But it wasn’t the success they had hoped for. Production stopped just 3 years later. And of course, blaming it on “Americans don’t want sedans anymore”. But truly, that Continental was not what Continental fans were expecting. It was also released at a time when sedan sales were on the way down. Way down…
Of course, what would work better is a larger RWD sedan like the last Town Car. But that old Panther platform is long gone, and adapting the current Mustang platform would probably be quite costly. It seems the only new platform we have heard about from Ford is their all-new Universal EV platform. A new Town Car based on that platform would become quieter and more powerful than it has ever been. Without even trying hard. That new platform is rumored to be used for at least 8 brand-new models. Of course, Pickups and SUVs will be first. And why not something for Lincoln?
Cadillac was working on 2 new EV sedans for a while. We were supposed to see these “soon,” as they say. That was almost 2 years ago. Now they’ve announced a second generation CT5 instead.
As I recently found out, the Town Car still has tons of fans. Of all ages, it seems. It was a super reliable car, and many of them can be bought for around $10,000 or so. Making it a great deal for those looking for a big American luxury car that isn’t too old. But really, a brand new one would be much better.
The illustrations above show what a new Lincoln Town Car could look like. A very clean and simple design that draws a bit of inspirations from past generations. Something that looks modern yet truly American.
And why not…
